Was the impeachment of Bill Clinton when we lost our way in Washington?

I remember being for his impeachment , I was mad and angry that he was behaving like that in the oval office and lied to us, but looking back on it now it seems that we as a country or Republican Party took it too far.
Now we have each party impeaching and trying to destroy the other opponent.
At the same time we have a uniparty so there’s the appearance of opposition but still what’s happening to Donald Trump is way over the top abuse of power in my humble opinion.

Bill Clinton broke the law and deserved to pay for it just like anyone should. Donald Trump broke zero laws.
The reality is that the ruling class is above the law. The Clinton’s, Obama, the Biden crime family, etc. not to mention murdering Ted Kennedy
Your lower level congress people are not, but the ruling class is untouchable.

I don't know but it's a fair question.

The problem with the impeachment of Bill Clinton is that it did not successfully lead to his removal.
The republican party lost their way when they refused to back Nixon.

“Lawfare” started when dems shot down Robert Bork as SCOTUS nominee
That’s when this all started
It introduced the concept of “hardball”.

This phase of America's decline began on Nov 4, 2008
But there were a number of turning points before that:
Reagan caves on immigration
Watergate emboldens media bias against Republicans
Immigration Act of 1965
Robert Bork said the decline began in the 1920s - & he didn't mean prohibition. What other Amendment was passed at that time? Hmmm...

It shore did not help!!! Recall thoughtful (but brainwashed) coworker several years back righteously bitching that Willy was impeached because of a blow job. Eh, no....more complicated. For the record, I was (and still am) appalled that Repubs dogpiled Clinton. So I understood his angle. Hated that 'pubs jumped on Clinton in '98, and I hate that Dems jump on Trump right now.

frick no. An impeachment is the correct Constitutional remedy, right or wrong. This is entirely different- criminalizing the Republican Party nominee for non criminal behavior. This is Soviet, dark, evil - ominous in every way. This is Stalin and find me the man and I will find the crime. The worst legal excess in American Presidential history by a factor of 10. This is a legal assassination.

For this generation of progressives, Today was their Watergate. They took down a president.

No. It was the removal.of Nixon. Nixon was almost as popular as Reagan and they took him out after the people reelected him.

The fact Republicans did not remove Clinton is what started the downward trend.

This kicked into high gear under Obama.
Social media was gas on the fire.

Clinton “accidentally” getting FBI files on congress cemented the weaponization of the FBI as a one-party police force. J Edgar had used it against both parties and they more or less behaved. Now one side has free reign to do as they please.
