What are we thinking re: the competition? Does it seem like interest is waning in general? Do we think it is time of year? That it fell on a holiday weekend?

I enjoy participating and still personally have an interest, but low participation certainly makes it less interesting.

Let me know.

I have never entered anything, but I really like seeing what you guys are creating. I hope you will continue. I now have a Beans alla Vodka recipe highlighted and in the cooking queue.

Maybe I will get up the courage to enter something one day, depending on the ingredient.

Same here.

Congrats, LL. Go for the hat trick.

Congrats, LL! Your dish looks delicious, as always!

With regards to the continuation of the challenges, not sure if I can “not” participate, although Lord knows I’ve tried.

I still enjoy the challenges. I like having an ingredient with options (like beans or pasta) to see the different typs of that ingredient chosen, but I also think it would be good to do some with a specific ingredient.

Instead of pasta, do penne.
Instead of beans, do red beans.
Instead of sandwiches, do sandwich with bacon.
Instead of mexican food, do tacos.

We could also try 2 ingredient challenges. Peanut butter and chocolate, bacon and tomato, shrimp and spinach, etc.

The biggest thing is to have new posters join in. So many express interest in doing a challenge but always seem hesitant of their cooking skills. I am no cooking wizard, I just do these for fun. Posters need to stop being hesitant and join in.

It was a hard choice between you and LL this time. I could just look at the picture of your green beans and ham and taste it. My wife saves ham bones for either green beans or kale -- and is washing the kale now.

I can rarely participate, but I certainly love seeing what everyone makes with the selected ingredient. I look forward to these challenges. I love the beautiful complex dishes, but I actually look more for the simpler dishes that don't take as much time because I'm more likely to use those. I think some posters are a bit intimidated, but they shouldn't be.

I also like to see different versions of the same dish. I wouldn't mind seeing a challenge that was "pot pies", any kind at all or "make your favorite comfort food". Since I rarely participate, I really shouldn't suggest!

I think the holiday may have hit this challenge. Some folks think ahead and make ahead, but I suspect most make their dish close to submission time or when they see a reminder shortly before the deadline.

I will say.. I still have a huge list saved in my notes app of ingredients and categories we haven't done, so it's not for lack of ingredients over here.

Absolutely. If you look back at our winners, the most complex dish is only sometimes the winner. I try to vote based partially on the skill level and creativity that I know was required for the dish, but I also factor in comfort of the dish, what I'd realistically eat first, how it is served, etc.

I agree. I've only made my dish super early once or twice. I'm usually right before, and lately, day-of.

I'll review my list today and pick something in a bit.

I'm not sure why I didn't place higher for this challenge

I'm still interested, it just always depends on what the ingredient is

Congrats to all. Voting was very difficult because they all looked great.

My hope is that eventually there's a potluck where all the past winners bring their winning dishes

Thanks! No worries, though. If you decide to recreate it at some point, add potatoes!

If any of these stand out, please don't be shy. I don't want to pick a total dud on accident.

I think that could be fun too. Categories are sometimes tricky because someone will make a plate of like spaghetti and be like "they have that on the hot line at my gas station" But the votes kinda take care of that sort of thing anyway.

I'll make a thread tomorrow.

Hobo - I enjoy a pickle, but it is a pretty polarizing food and I wouldn't want to alienate people who'd normally compete over a pickle aversion, ya know?
