Hey y’all, I’ve got an idea…

I was thinking it might be fun to do a monthly cook. Say, for the month of June, people make coq au vin, or cassoulet, or beef bourguignon, or sticky chicken, sauce piquant, beef bulgogi, or some other agreed upon dish.
Not a competition, no voting, just a thread where people post their interpretation of that month’s dish. Participants would have the whole month to add to the thread, and some might be inspired by what others cook and join in.
We could explore international and ethnic cuisines, national popular dishes, some basic, some more involved. I’m not sure how we’d decide on each month’s dish, but it might be nice to plan ahead and have a calendar of planned events that people could peruse.
Opinions? Anybody? Bueller?

I would definitely be into that. Especially if we do some cuisines from around the world. I love picking a country, researching a few popular dishes from the country, finding authentic recipes, and trying to make it.
I say keep it simple on the which dishes we do. If someone throws out an idea and 2 or 3 others say "hell yeah", we have our next dish.
Great idea Darla.

Great idea! A variation might be to cook out of a specific cookbook for a month, e.g. Kenji Lopez-Alt's The Wok.

Sounds like it could be fun.

Make it a potluck at an agreed upon location, invite Meridiandog to be the master of ceremonies and you've won the internet for the day.
Just don't let chicken find out. He'll NoColors your arse with the quickness.

Is it too early to start a discussion about the first dish?
I’ll start with cioppino. I’ve never made or even tasted it, but is it too simple?
Dish suggestions welcomed.

Tomorrow is June 1, so maybe I waited too late to get this off the ground, but does anyone have a first dish suggestion for the month of June?

Anything summer related? What are some dishes you may get at beach restaurants?
Some of these won’t be complex enough to interest y’all, but I’m listing some ideas just to brainstorm: smoked tuna dip, club sandwich, shrimp pasta (not heavy sauce), coconut chicken curry, some type of Greek kebab, some type of Asian fish or chicken.

I like it. But maybe broaden it to be a more general dish - fish stew - could be courtbullion, Brazilian moqueca, Mexican Siete de Mares... I'm sure there are lots of Asian versions too.
Basically fish/seafood in a seasoned broth.
Edit - here are a few examples. I'm guessing every culture near water in the world has a version.
Maybe it's better for a cold month though.
Mash for stew.

Thanks Prof, great idea!
I may have mulled and pondered too long to get it going this month.
