Football scoop
quote:

Even still, C of C's RPI came in at 42nd nationally, ahead of five power conference teams (plus James Madison) that netted at-large bids. And that doesn't include Alabama, Florida, LSU, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt -- all of whom were granted bids despite going 13-17 in SEC play. Bama, LSU, South Carolina and Vandy even nabbed 2-seeds in their respective regionals.

Interesting read.

College of Charleston would have won 5 SEC games this year. Maybe.

I wonder what CofC's SEC record would have been this year?

At the end of the day LSU, Vandy and USC all played themselves in through the SEC tourney
Maybe you have an argument to leave out Bama or Florida for not winning a game in sec tourney and LSU would have been in that category had they not beaten UGA

this is why further expansion of college football playoffs will always be meaningless.

The best team they played non-conference was a 3 game series at home against Nebraska. They got swept.

The only P5 team they played was Nebraska and got swept by them.

They should be mad at Wofford because they have the same record and beat them in a head to series

Why bring up RPI when all the SEC teams you mentioned by name all have a better RPI

Vandy: 20
USCe: 21
LSU: 23
Bama: 24
FL: 30

College of Charleston: 42
NCAA

13-17 in SEC play

In our case, it's a little misleading to ignore our SECt record. We are 17-18 against SEC competition thus far.

It still amazes me how Florida still made the tourney with a 28-27 overall record while LSU was fighting for their tournament lives with a 36-20 record heading into conference tournament.

CoC also scheduled like a power 5 school. Their first 16 games were at home.

One thing to consider though, because they aren't in a terrible league, is that their conference games are on FloSports and most others are on ESPN+.

Northeastern, UNCW, Stony Brook, Campbell, CoC. It's a pretty good league. They need a better TV deal.

Is College of Charleston better than ANY SEC team in tournament? No. They likely could have gotten in if not for the undeserving teams with horrible records getting automatic bids (ie; Grambling)
IMHO all teams in tournament must have a winning record. If you have a .500 or losing record and win end of season tournament, then too bad, no automatic bid. A more deserving team will take that spot.

Kyle Peterson brought this up in an interview with Greg Stankey: did he think that SEC teams playing an SEC schedule, should that give them leverage over other teams who don't play near harder schedules. LSU playing the number 1,2,3,4 teams in the country to start the season basically. No other conference had a team / s play anything close.

What’s interesting to me is he was fired from South Carolina for a 13-17 record. Sounds like that’s why he’s really mad. No one really believes they could hang at even 10-20. Their losses were to the best competition they faced.

Whats amazing is historically 13-17 SEC teams got in at like a 30 something % rate. That would tell you probably only 2 of the 5 13-17 SEC teams should have gotten in going by historical numbers. However, the SEC was just absolutely brutally tough this season and the teams that kind of needed to win those SECT games did.

Florida was the team I thought would be left out because 28-27 record is absolutely gross, but when you have the #1 SOS I guess they gave a bigger leash than expected there.

Bama also seems a little fortunate to get in despite going 0-1 as well in the SECT while LSU, USC and Vandy all won at least 3 games in the SECT.

I thought the entire time they would leave 1 out for sure and potentially 2. But all 5 got in, which is saying something what the committee thought of the SEC this season.

They had a good record against shitty teams. Perhaps this pain can encourage them to schedule tougher/bigger teams for ooc play.

That’s exactly what he’s mad about. He missed the tournament twice at SC with 13-17 records and his boss fired him for it saying they wouldn’t accept mediocrity. Now, every single 13-17 team in the league gets in the tournament, while he gets left out at 21-5. I understand why he’s mad. Not that he’s saying CoC is “better” than any SEC team, but they had a damn good season and deserved to be in. I agree with him.

If it makes him feel better, South Carolina is about to fire his successor even though he keeps making regionals.
