Researchers in China say they have cured diabetes for the first time
quote:
The experimental treatment involved creating an artificial version of cells found in the pancreas that produce insulin and keep blood sugar levels in check.
The man had suffered from type 2 diabetes for 25 years and had lost almost all function of these cells, known as islets. He was deemed high risk of deadly complications, requiring multiple insulin injections every day to prevent him from going into a diabetic coma

They should come to the Southern US to test that stuff. I’ll lay 2:1 odds “the sugar” wins.

Carnivore diet will do the same without chinese bull shite.

It’s possible since the drug companies in the US have no desire to actually improve health outcomes.

I think Biden's admin just capped insulin prices, so it's not like they're banking on current meds

You mean the one OMB had set into play and Biden canceled only to tag it again saying he initiated ?
Posted on 5/27/24 at 8:39 pm to Nosevens
Sure. Point still stands. My association with Biden was to be critical of Biden, but if you want to shite on Trump then go ahead.

Tell me what I'm missing...it sounds like the cure is for Type 1 but they talk about a guy with Type 2.

This process was done in the US 20 years ago. I think Duke university pioneered it. It worked on type II (fat arse acquired) and type I (genetic acquired). The problem was that it took something like 2,500 pigs to recruit the amount of cells (islets of langerhaans) to “jump start” a single humans production. They abandoned it for that reason.

As an adult onset type 1 due to pancreatic atrophy I am aware that in the USA it’s possible to have one’s own islet cells (if functioning) transplanted from the pancreas to the liver to continue insulin and glucagon production (glucagon is the counter to insulin. Insulin tells the body to store glucose and glucagon tells the body to release it. Glucose is essentially fuel.).
It’s rarely performed surgery and it’s not usually effective but it is available. They have even begun attempting complete and partial pancreas transplants with some encouraging, but still fatal at this point, results.

Exactly. Their goal is to create a drug that can keep you alive so you can use their product for the rest of your life.
Why would they want to cure the disease that they are making money off of you having?
