re: I hoped last summer’s heat would be a one off, but it doesn’t appear it was.

That’s one of the few positives about Louisiana. Money goes a long way

High of 90 in late May….
You gotta relax.
In BR 16 of the 20 days of May have been above average with the remaining 11 days forecasted to be above average. 11 of the first 20 days have been 5 degrees or more above average. This May is lining up just like last year for what little that means for the rest of the summer.

Some of you go through an impressive slate of mental gymnastics and rhetoric to hand-wave the fact our climate is, indeed, changing

True... It's a few degrees hotter and last summer was punishing due to El Nino. It's also true that this issue is amplified. It's also true that the vast majority of the population is Charmin level soft.
Four generations prior in my family lived in southwest Louisiana and east Texas without a/c.

Yes the climate has been changing for all eternity
In fact we are still in one of the coolest periods of the planet ever
It all depends on how small you want your time scale to be

This place is 95% fat baws running daily triathlons. Last thing they want is an increase in temperature.

It was not normal. A few years before that (the OT will remember the year), it was near the polar opposite. It rained seemingly every damn day all summer.

[quote]This is the coolest spring I remember in a long time. May has been very mild thus far. Last year we didn't even have a spring. It was like straight to summer from fall.

Yeah I agree with this. It was still going down to abouy 58 at night last week. But last year in metro-Atlanta was brutal, especially because my car is black and the AC was broken.

I'd sell plasma to fix my car ac during the summer in the South, or just put that shite on a credit card if I had to

Reality is that the planet’s climate is constantly changing. And there isn’t a damn thing humanity can do about it.
They already do control the weather, or try. We know for a fact that they cloud seed. Nobody knows what our government is capable of. And man made climate change is perfect cover if things go south. But we can never have the impact that our moon, an asteroid, the sun, and volcanoes have, literally overnight.

I’ve seen it reach 90s the soon before

For those that said the hot weather was nothing to worry about:
Not only did we tie today's record high of 98° set 102 years ago, we hit a pretty crazy milestone with the low.
82° is the warmest low we've ever recorded on any date prior to July 5. It also ties for 4th warmest for any day of the year.
Temperatures that are consistently 5-10 deg hotter than normal over time will have an environmental impact on the animals and plants that can live in a given region. The ecology of a whole region can change. The damage to the crawfish crop last year is a perfect example of how the heat can affect the wildlife.

Within two decades it will be plain that man can change the climate. You don’t have to be a scientist to guess how: reflecting sunlight away from earth, seeding clouds, and many other ideas.

Drive 12 miles to the south and the high was 4° cooler and the low was 3° cooler.

Where are you making hay on May 20?
I’m fixing a few miles of fence today so you must be the man for the job. We start at sunrise.
No man who actually works outside acts like a beech boy calling other people names because it’s hot.

The summers have gotten warmer, especially the morning lows. I remember we’d sometimes open windows to cool off at night but those days are long gone. But the more obvious trend is the winters are shorter and milder, with one or two cold spells that are short lived. The leaves turn a few weeks later and spring comes earlier.
You aren’t imagining that change, but human life cycles are very short compared to the climate changes.
The temps went much colder through the 1960’s and 1970’s. The climate alarmists were talking about a new ice age approaching, aka the new normal.
