Why do Irish people support Hamas/Palestine so much?

Tyson Fury (Irishman) just blamed his boxing loss on the war….it’s boxing for crying out loud.
I read about all these Irish parliamentary actions condemning Israel and supporting Palestine.
I also have some Irish friends and all they post on social media is support for Palestine and bad things about Israel.
Why is this? Am I missing a cultural pull here?

Maybe the hundreds of years Ireland was “occupied” by England. The oppressed syndrome.

I can see why they would have sympathy for terrorists who attack a ruling nation that has a different culture and religion.

Yeah I get the history of suppression but I would think it’s the other way. That they would be protecting Israel for being attacked by forces around them.

I think your premise is wrong. I know a lot of christian Irish that do not think much of the Hamas types

Is the way of 'their people'.

The Irish are pretty much the Palestinians of the British Isles. They committed terrorist attacks in the UK to try to drive them off the island. Pretty Muslim-y

I think he was referencing the Ukrainian war… you know since he was fighting a Ukrainian fighter

I see. But, still. Irish people love Palestine

There’s a difference between Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Uh, yeah. It was Ireland committing terrorist attacks to drive Northern Ireland and the UK off the island.

I miss the days of frequent IRA and ETA bombings across Europe. Back when terrorists still looked like us. Now DEI has taken over

There's also a difference between Hamas and Palestine, along with being pro-Judaism and anti-IDF at the same time.

I wondered how long this thread would go without somebody pointing out that Hamas and Palestine are not synonymous.

The Irish supported Palestine until some of their spies used fake Irish passports
Biblically speaking, Israel should not have a country. Britain helped to make Israel nation - and making yet another religious war.

There's a lot of parallels between The Troubles and the intifada- especially in imagery/optics. Think masked teens throwing rocks at soldiers and armored vehicles.
There's also a very old link between the IRA and PLO going back to the training camps in N Africa. It was the IRA who taught PLO how to build bombs and snipe from the trunks of cars.
Both fought the British.
But what you are seeing is this history expressed through Sinn Fein. If you support Sinn Fein you are sympathetic to the Palestenians just like if you are a Democrat here you automatically do the same. It isn't an informed o ersonal belief, it is a conditioned group think.
