As someone with an intimate knowledge of how hotels normally handle these events, I will tell you that hotel security offices will not review a tape unless the aggrieved party (normally a guest) brings a charge against another guest or the hotel itself. But, if Diddy requested the tape, then they most surely reviewed the tape. Once they see a crime on the tape, they are legally obliged to report it. Their actions could constitute their effort to cover-up a crime. In most large hotels, there is one guy in the security office, and one or two guys patrolling or answering noise complaints. My guess is that the $50K went to one guy, and he never told anybody else about the deal.

You people who think the solution to everything is suing somebody are morons. Example:you. She had/has plenty of money. The “hotel” didn’t sell the tape. Some dude who saw a chance to make some cash did. And what good would it do? Zero. And it would cost a hell of a lot of money. The only people who ever win when morons sue people are lawyers. You probably have a personal injury lawyers number saved in your phone just in case someone rear ends you in traffic. And failure to report is not grounds for a civil suit anyway. It is a crime though.

Give us the California law supporting this

Someone at the hotel reviewed and saw the footage of a crime.

Instead of telling Diddy frick off and bringing the tape to the police, Diddy was allowed to abuse for 8 years after this incident.

Of course, there was also the option of the victim of his crime choosing to report it which would have created a record and gotten the police involved directly with the hotel.

You got a link for any of that, or is that just the word on the streets?

This happens way more than you think. It was probably some low level security guy. Especially if he only got 50k

Plaintiff lawyer: Hi. So you say you can’t and don’t review all security footage on your properties, correct?

Hotel: Yes. That’s correct

Plaintiff lawyer: well let me ask you this. Say I’m staying at your hotel and I walk up to the front desk and say that I want to purchase security footage from your camera. Do you and your people simply take my money and give me the tape without reviewing it?

Let’s say you do review it before you sell it to me and there is a crime clearly evident occurring on the footage, what do you do then?

A step further, you believe that you have no duty to report any crime that you happen to see on your surveillance video at any point?

Hotel: if a crime is not reported then, correct we have no duty.

Plaintiff lawyer: ok you are going to go with that defense at trial?

Hote: yes

Plaintiff lawyer: see you in court.

Hotel: "For the safety and security of our guests, as well as their privacy, we do not routinely review our old surveillance video. It is stored on a server with an industry standard 90-day retention policy. If no requests are made from law enforcement or internal investigations of our own, the VMS application deletes the data automatically. This is in accordance with industry standards, SOX, NIST, et al, and is audited annually by a 3rd party to assure these practices are followed. Here are the audit reports for the last 7 years. If this video was sold to someone, it would be against our policy. Furthermore, all of our surveillance on our properties is outsourced to a 3rd party security firm. Sue them. Nobody from our in-house hotel staff can manipulate or transfer surveillance videos on our leased VMS."

Plaintiff Lawyer: "Can I get a dollar and some envelopes?"

My family owns a hotel (not Indian) and my cousin runs it. I asked her and she basically said what you said.

Are hotels mandatory reporters?

That’s stupid. I don’t give a frick if someone is designated as a mandatory reporter. If you are an adult of sound mind and you witness a crime against another person, you have a duty to report it

Yet somehow the video is still out there. That opens up a lot of holes in the "hotel sold the tape to Diddy" accusation.

Honestly, its a shame that it took this long for things to come down on him. I remember in the late 90s the rapper Mase who was under his label just gave up rapping and became a preacher or some shite and there were rumors about why Mase left and him not agreeing with the lifestyle Diddy lived.

Then I think Chappelle had hinted at a few things, but evidently Hollywood (and when I say Hollywood I am talking about the powers that may be which I have no idea who that is) is very powerful. It can break you as fast as it can make you.

And it seems like the actors and anyone who can make them money is fine (like a story I heard some actor telling about Denzel Washington. Denzel had advised him that after all the award shows, you go, show your face then leave. He advised him to not stay after midnight because that's nothing anyone should want to be a part of. The dude said that he told himself "I am an adult, I can make my own decisions. I am going to stay. He said that the closer to midnight it got groups of people started leaving and there were those who stayed. At exactly midnight the whole environment changed. The lights got low, the music changed and then he saw a 3some involving 3 men. I don't know how true it is, but there seems to be something to the whole after midnight thing).

I think if whatever goes on there, if it was ever revealed there would be a lot of people whose name would come out and I will be honest, I am interested in it. I think if you are a big time actor who makes a lot of money then you can kind of do what you want, but for everyone else...They have to stay after midnight to get those parts.

Great hotel.

Cool that it’s next to Nakatomi Plaza, if you’re a fan of that stuff.

Hotel most definitely reviewed otherwise they could be sharing video of others with Diddy ans be in even more shite.

They have an affirmative duty here.

I guess I need to know who got this 50k. If it’s some clerk working the graveyard that gets handed 50k cash for walking in the back and getting a vhs tape or hard drive I got a hard time being mad at them.
