You think the same people wanting this guy released are the same people that boycotted the release of that male basketball player for the weed in Russia?

Wrong, she brought in on purpose. They had no idea, it was hidden under a flap.

I know the wife of the guy from PA really well, she dated one of my best friends back in high school and college. He’s a good guy and they’ve been going through a nightmare since he was detained down there. I don’t know how she’s holding it together with two young kids and going through this.

All kidding aside I feel bad for him. Bad situation but he is an idiot too. It sucks.

But think about Turks position. They have long been a pretty safe place, relatively speaking, and for a few years they have gotten a lot worse due to drug violence and trafficking. So they enact tough on crime laws

Now imagine you “let this one go” for some whitey.

Every smuggler will use the “I didn’t know about it” defense to try and get it in.

Maybe don’t bring illegal shite into a foreign country and you won’t get thrown in the slammer? Sounds simple enough to me.

That’s really sad… but you have to be more careful when leaving the country… that’s all there is to it.

How do you boycott the release of someone?

Yes, the American citizens who couldnt be bothered to comply with another country’s laws are indeed very stupid.. Yeah, yeah i know, they “forgot”…. Now, i dont think their sentence should be 12 years harsh- but i still think theyre stupid, and i dont make the laws… if other Americans disagree, they can vote with their wallets, and according to this thread, they will- but it doesnt make those American guys incarcerated right now in T&C any less stupid .

Turks and Caicos

I don’t understand the appeal.

It’s a barren rock covered in cactus. It has absolutely no beauty above the water.

They’ve made the mistake of not keeping the upscale prices on flights and hotels, and now it’s covered in undesirables.

I can’t imagine wanting to go there out of all of the other amazing islands in the Caribbean if you’re not a diver.

The diving is the best you’ll find anywhere in the Caribbean.

Frick any country that doesn’t allow a grown man to go heeled. Let’s just take it over. We need a quick win on the war front.

He is guilty of accidentally possessing a few bullets that he didn't know were there. He's not a drug lord or cartel killer.

Any place that doesn't know the difference has no sense, but is just a blind stupid bureaucracy probably looking to extort a pay off.

Responding to OP but not directed to him.

I get the “follow other countries laws” angle but this is insane. This would be like if someone from Belgium showed up with a small weed bag in Louisiana and we threatened them with 12 years minimum. If you want to fine them or even give them a few days in jail or whatever sure. 12 years though?

This is why the government is speaking up.

I felt the same about griner. She was an idiot for bringing the weed but her sentence was insane.

Now freeing a war lord for her was equally dumb but I digress.

This is where you are wrong. It’s their fault that they didn’t pay attention to what was in their bag.. again it’s pretty simple…

Sounds like a great time for conservative Americans to start a campaign against spending money in T&C if they railroad these dudes

Or to quietly tell T&C they will wage such a campaign and give the govt a way to mitigate the issue without undercutting their sovereignty and authority on these laws going forward.
