Small mice not triggering snap trap

They are eating the peanut butter bait without setting off the trap. Any ideas?

Use a peanut Instead of peanut butter. Push it down on the barbs real good so he has to work to get a taste.

work on the trigger. Make it as sensitive as possible. Sure its not roaches eating the PB and its not being visited by mouses?

Walmart or Lowes sell those cheap snap traps with the bent metal triggers. You can bend the part that holds the bar thing to make it super sensitive.
The added bonus is that you won't have to worry with a stress test for a while. It will snap a time or two when you try to put it where you want it. Use two traps side by side, perpendicular to the baseboard. I only use those traps when I have one I can't trap. My nerves aren't up to it.
ETA: Extra crunchy peanut butter on the top and bottom of the trigger.

Get or borrow a cat. Mines a little annoying sometimes, but she'll smell a mouse before I ever know one got in the house and will wait it out and catch it within a night or two.

Sticky traps work well, caught a snake in one.
Make sure the trap has a hair trigger. Load it up with Peanut Butter!

Glue and dog kibble is a lot harder to remove than peanut butter.

Glue traps in the path of the snap traps.

Get a 4-pack of glue traps. Put a bit of peanut butter right in the middle. They won't avoid that.

Get one of those bucket lid trap door mouse traps. Then things work well and you’ll catch multiple mice per night. I’ve caught up to 6 in an hour from my garage once.

Our cat stepped on one in the middle of the night one time. You should’ve heard that ruckus. I jumped out of bed so fast! I thought house was collapsing!
