The Rolling Stones.
Beatles are the Beatles and deserving of all the accolades but I prefer The Stones. I wouldn't selectively put Beatles music on but have no problem when people play it.

quote:It's truly unbelievable how close it was together. When people heard "I Want to Hold Your Hand", they could have had no idea that "If I Fell" was only 6 months away. Yesterday and Ticket to Ride were within a year of that. And Tomorrow Never Knows was in a year of that...and then Sgt. Pepper's came out!
No one else has ever had such an evolution of their sound over a relatively short career as a band. From 1963-1970 they evolved from an early rock'n'roll/pop sound to more introspective pop rock to psychedelic rock to more eclectic stuff
A lifetime of innovation in like 40 months.

The Beatles had the advantage of probably the best producer in music history.

I agree with this. But I like the Stones more.
While I don’t deny their importance to music and pop culture in general, I just don’t care for the Beatles music much at all.

The Stones were still making music when I was a teenager, the Beatles broke up when I was in grade school.
I like both, but The Rolling Stones Some Girls album was my mantra.

I always preferred the Rolling Stones throughout my life, but The Beatles were the more talented band. I like both though.

Stones. They pulled much better trim and longevity-wise the Beatles were a flash in the pan.

quote:On a quality-adjusted basis, the Beatles were of about the same career duration as the Stones. Sure, the Stones were together to put out Steel Wheels. You can have it.

Both. However the Stones are quite possibly the GOAT of all time true Rock and Roll bands. Their resume is so far ahead of any other band it’s not funny.
Quick edit. I am no way saying The Beatles aren’t the biggest innovators and influencers of music of the 60s and early 70s because they were. I played Revolver and the White Album till the grooves wore out. They have a very big place in my growing up and I’ll continue to play and listen to them till i depart.

Ladies and Gentlemen, THE ROLLING STONES

Both. They both put out masterpieces in the late 60s and early 70s.

I prefer rock n roll over pop music

The Beatles…
Stones are great but they were always chasing The Beatles. The Beatles crushed the Stones when they went head to head from 1963-1970. The Beatles were more versatile in their music and their complete catalogue is much more impressive than the Stones.
The Beatles by far.

It's hard to compare musical acts who broke up vs groups who stayed together.
We never saw the Beatles grow old (as a group) or make a sub-par album.
It's like comparing an artist who died (Jimmy Hendrix) with one who lived (Eric Clapton).
We never saw Hendrix make a pop album, or grow old, etc. Hendrix is forever in his prime with us, sort of as the Beatles are.
I personally like priime Stones better than prime Beatles. But I love them both.
