re: Louisiana peeps - if you could transplant your life elsewhere, would you (and where)?

Depends what I could get used to, climate-wise.
East Texas is realistic.
Florida would be nice albeit a bigger hurricane risk.
The Carolinas are appealing if I could get used to cold weather / driving in the snow as it is beautiful out there and likes it whenever I went through those states.

Couer D'Alene, Idaho
Living in Louisiana all my life has made me appreciate mountainous terrain.
I'd move there, but like another poster said, southern girls like to be closer to family. And wife (no pics) has never lived more than half an hour from where she grew up.

Well, that begs the question: What keeps you in Louisiana?
Friends, family, culture, LSU sports, etc. After four years of school in NY, I chose Ft Polk as my first assignment in order to get back home. After my five years of service was up, I found my house in BR before finding a job.
A couple of years ago I was at a conference where a recruiter contacted me about an opportunity that would have significantly increased my pay/bonus but I would have to move to Dallas. When I returned home I mentioned it to my wife where she quickly responded I hope you told him no thanks.
To me raising my kids around family and friends is worth more than money and career opportunities elsewhere. To each their own!

I see several people say Wyoming. I wonder how many have been to places other than Yellowstone/Jackson. Wyoming, outside of those 2 areas is absolutely miserable. I-80 is a straight killer (if open) and severe winds never stop. If I never go back to Wyoming, I would be more than happy.

I wish it was as easy as snapping a finger and it be done.
We are currently in the process of moving to Utah. 1700 miles with 2 kids and 4 dogs isn't going to be that fun.
A small price to pay to get out of Louisiana, however.

I have thought Pinedale, Cody, or Sheridan/Buffalo would be nice to live.
Do those places suck too?

Somewhere where there's no demoncrapic domestic enemies trying to destroy everything.

Colorado, maybe. Or one of the Carolinas. Somewhere with decent schools and cool things to do.

Have you ever been to those places during anytime outside of summer?
Do you like snow, extreme wind, black ice and freezing cold from early Sept through late May? If so, more power to you.
I used to think Wyoming would be a great place to live. Then I moved here and began doing a lot of work throughout Wyoming, in all seasons. It is the opposite of Louisiana. Just like Louisiana, there are 2 seasons. For Wyoming, it is a very short, mild summer which is awesome, and then a very long and very bitter winter. You have to remember, Wyoming is a very elevated state. Salt Lake is at about 4200 feet(and it has been snowing here all week). As you drive east on I-80 towards Evanston, you climb to over 6200 feet. Much of Wyoming is over 7000 feet in elevation. The average temp of Wyoming is around 45.
On the plus side, people from Wyoming are some of the nicest people you can find and the hunting is world class. I do hunt mule deer and elk there as well as fly fish during the hopper season.

wife and I really like the Jasper AR area. Quiet, beautiful, small town feel. If I thought we both could find work, we would be up there tomorrow.
