I'm taking an elderly family members small SUV in for a new battery at a local AutoZone type store.

Let them do it so I don't have to make multiple trips for a core change refund.

Seems like it's more work than a waitress bringing me a lunch plate.

The battery will be around $120.

Why wouldn’t you change it yourself? Just ask for a wrench

Why not just bring to to a mechanic where the pricing structure is transparent? You could get 50 people here to tell you $40 is enough but if the store is short-staffed, $100 may not be enough.

Not sure but I paid a Walmart employee 40 to change a valve stem late one evening last week. Place was busy so I offered an incentive. It was a Sunday and no other places were opened.

So they can charge you $187.50 for a battery change that you brought in? They'll claim it took 1.5 hours of labor and slap on $7.50 for "shop supplies" because they had to use a wrench.

I bring a wrench with me when I go to buy a new battery and just swap it out myself.
