If I absolutely needed someone to look at my boat this week, who’s my best shot?

Port side motor all of a sudden started to idle high- 2100 rpm

Starboard motor trim all of a sudden isn’t working- was working last time I checked it- a few months ago. Motor comes on, oil is in there, but no lift action.

225 4 strokes.

I don’t think either one is a train smash, who’s my best shot?

Pop cowling and see if any hoses or plugs came undone. I’ve heard of this happening when hose pulls off throttle body or sensor gets unplugged

Did you try both the switch on the throttle and the switch in rear? They both don’t work?

As far as where to take it I would say Outcast but probably going to be tough to get it looked at on a few days notice.

May get lucky though

It’s very likely something came unplugged- the last time I ran it was on the Tenn-Tom waterway on the wet test and then I towed it 400 miles down here. You are 100%- it could even be a vacuum hose.

The trim has me befuddled- all three switches work….same deal. They worked on the way home….because I played with how the motors would
ride. The trim motor comes on- on the engine, on the throttle, and on the individual switch on the throttle handle housing. Like it became air locked or something.

When I got home, I pulled a lot of the boat apart- gauges off to Gauge Saver, installed an i-pilot, redid the trailer, new 215 AIS VHF, a little refit.

Of course, just because I’m ready to use the damn thing now, it’s gonna act up.

Thanks everyone on the Outcast suggestions- I had called them before on an unrelated issue and the lady that I talked to was nice, but they seemed to be perpetually booked up.

I’m from the equipment world- a problem like mine could be taken care of by a road tech on Monday before lunch, Tuesday at the latest. I don’t get boat mechanics- or boat service departments.

excellent guys, but you are going to wait in line.

the guy at Cypress Cove in Slidell is one of the top Yamaha mechanics in the country. Yamaha dealers from all over the country call him with problems.
And I am assuming that he is still there. Do not recall his name. Sorry.

Tyler at Nelson Boat Repair in Chalmette takes care of our twin Yamaha 115s. He is quick, very good and reasonable.

In Lafayette, I take mine to the PropShop but I do not think they are a Yamaha authorized service center if that is a concern for you. Mine is a single 150 4 stroke.

Greenwell Springs Marine is great but they get slammed, last few times when I needed something in a hurry I would go to Boats Unlimted on Airline north of Greenwell Springs Road

Both do great work.

Their front lot had fewer boats last time I passed about 2 weeks ago, of course it could also be that there were fewer of the big Catamarans that full it up quickly. I’ll check on my way back from GI on Thursday.

It's an hour outside of your listed range but Bay Marina in Bay St Louis has a Yamaha mechanic who rents a warehouse from them. He serviced my 150 same day a few weeks ago. May be worth calling to see how quickly he could look at it if you'd be willing to make the drive. If you call the marina just ask for Daniel's phone #.
