Time for my usual public service announcement:

If you are in KS, OK, NE, MO, etc. and you see/experience a funnel cloud, tornado, hail, damage, or anything of note that you take a picture or video of, do not only share it with James Spann on Xwitter or Facebook. If you want to tag him, fine, but first tag your local NWS office and your preferred on air met or news channel. They are the people who can most effectively communicate your report to the public.

Also, Ryan Hall and such YouTube streamers are fine to watch......if you are a couple of states away, well removed from the threat. Do not rely on such people for coverage during an ongoing or eminent threat. Ryan Hall and others have little direct knowledge of your particular area, nor do they have any accountability to your community. Simply put, they have no real skin in the game. Rely on those people who live and work in your community for coverage if you and your family are under threat.

This is pretty cool to visualize the setup coming together.

I definitely get the concept, but the whole "any storm that pops up is dangerous, full stop" is nonetheless a bit crazy for those of us who've never seen anything like that IRL

Not saying today will even be close to the same, but I remember on April 27, 2011 there were so many tornadic storms going on at once that afternoon that meteorologists like James Spann finally started saying that everyone needed to treat any storm near them as though it were producing a strong tornado, even if the storm wasn’t getting mentioned much on the TV coverage.

Same in Stillwater. Had the windows open all day and I’m sticky - reminds me of living in Baton Rouge!

Texas will be fine but the fuel is basically funneling north from Texas into Oklahoma

I will direct you to April 27, 2011. Every single storm that fired that day immediately started rotating. Every single one. Healthy updrafts formed quickly and a strong meso was rolling within 20-30 minutes......with every single storm.

Days like that are few and far between, thankfully, but they aren't unheard of.

This is not a comparison of today to 4/27/11.

Been drizzling off and on all day in Wichita. Went play a round of disc golf a bit ago and it was on the humid side but cool. It’s been cloudy all day so hopefully that keeps the energy low enough to keep things from getting ugly here.

NWS Huntsville and Birmingham came to agreement before the afternoon storms even started firing that they weren't going to issue any Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. The reason was two-fold: 1. Every storm that day was going to be capable if quickly producing a tornado, and 2. With the infrastructure damage and fragility of the NOAA weather radio network due to power outages from the morning storms, they didn't know if the system would handle as many warnings as they could have put through it. And, they wanted to simplify the warning process for radio simulcasts to people who were already without power.

Just curious, how does today’s setup compare to 4/11?

There isn't a whole lot of legitimate comparison.

Agreed. Different parts of the country so the setups just aren’t going to be comparable.
