It's too bad nobody worth a shite play the PMAC anymore hopefully once they finally build the new one they can get some decent acts
Seems like the dropoff in talent at PMAC also coincides with the opening of the New Orleans Arena (Smoothie King Center) in 1999.
The PMAC filled that 10,000+ seat void for the acts not quite big enough for the Superdome. UNO Lakefront Arena opened in 1983, but has a capacity of a little under 9,000.
I'm sure most acts would rather perform in New Orleans than Baton Rouge, if given the opportunity.
Maybe that could change with a new state of the art arena in Baton Rouge, though.

I was there and 17 at the time, probably pretty close to you. I was against the the front barricade center right. That’s where I heard Hum for the first time, still one my favorites.
Buddy, are you sure we didn’t go together. Do you own a BBQ franchise now?
Edit: wait no, doesn’t check out. BBQboi also manages rappers now and doesn’t like rock music (to my knowledge)

I was at this show. I'm not a fan of country music, but my girlfriend at the time was. It was cool when Garth came out wearing an LSU jersey. All in all, a good show.

Some of the other shows you listed were in the Centrolplex as well, but your list gives a good indication of the cool shows that used to pass through BR back in the day. I'll also add that REM played at The Bayou on Chimes Street in 1982.
The Sex Pistols played at the Kingfish in 1978 - I think that's where the Spectrum Fitness that's next to The Bulldog is now.
They had a lot of good punk and new wave shows back in the day. A librarian friend looked up the listings and I think the Ramones, Elvis Costello and the B-52s all had gigs at that club around that time.
The Pixies played the Bayou just before I enrolled at LSU in 1990. There were quite a few people on campus wearing T-shirts from that show.

I saw the Psychedelic Furs, Iggy Pop, Eric Johnson, DiVinyls, Wall of Voodoo, Rare Earth, Steppenwolf, The Neville Brothers, St. Louis Sheiks, The English Beat, and a few other bands at various incarnations of the former Kingfish (which was a Food Town grocery store when I was a kid).

The man certainly had a sense of humor and irony. It's what helped make him a great performer.

I prefer Setlist.fm for these kinds of things. It seems it is more complete.

Saw MJ's Off the Wall concert which was his last tour with his brothers. Probably early 90's.
Remember seeing Culture Club with Boy George at LSU.

That 1987 Boston show is the loudest concert I ever went to. My ears are still ringing to this day. (Literally- I believe that show is part of my tinnitus)
It was actually pretty amazing. They managed to turn it up to 11 and maintain audio quality and clarity. They sounded great.

I remember the Kingfish- saw the Ramones there, opening act was the Runaways with Lita Ford and Joan Jett. Also saw Lou Reed there with opening act, Ian Dury and the blockheads. I should have gone to the Sex Pistols show, but oh well, decided not to go...
