For some reason he’s not mentioned on here nearly enough.
Brandon LaFell, Michael Clayton, Tony Moss...the list is really rigodamndiculous when you start thinking about all the great WR's that came out of LSU

I take it you've never seen Mount Rushmore.

Eric Martin played in a Stone Age offense and his college career ended 40 years ago so half the board won’t remember him, but he was a GREAT player.
First All American WR in LSU history. Left school as the all time SEC leader in receiving yards. First team all SEC multiple times at WR, another program first.
If you put him in your top 4 you would absolutely not be wrong

Jarvis Landry isn’t on the Mount Rushmore, but he owns the top ten best catches list.

I think you have to have Josh Reed and Chase on the list b/c they won the Biletnikoff
And you have to have Nabers with his most receiving yards, and he was robbed of the Biletnikoff.
After that you can make a case for a plethora of guys.
Jefferson probably deserves it next, as he’d have been the Biletnikoff winner if he wasnt playing with the winner.
Jarvis and Clayton will always have a special place for me at WRU though b/c of the special teams and their ability to get that first down on 3rd down. They were so reliable, and so well liked b/c of the toughness they played with.

Landry has the best lsu catch ever! The rolling TD vs ARK was just dumb
Posted on 5/2/24 at 9:31 pm to Zamperini2014
He has the two best catches.
Both against Ar-Kansas.
The deep ball jumping over the defender catching it left handed somehow and the one he had to reach back for in the end zone with his right hand.
And he had this underrated catch.
And he killed a guy from Auburn, twice, although I could only find one of them.

The problem with this list is the fact that QB play and offensive scheme may have attributed to some discrepancies in stats which leads to over or under valuation of a prospect.

Landry and Clayton were exceptional blockers, so giving due credit for what they did in the running game ups their ratings. (And for anyone who wants to marginalize blocking by receivers, a good block on a DB is at times the difference between a run of 10-20 yards and a TD.) Then if you add special teams to the criteria, that adds even more value for them.
They don't have the numbers that some of the others do, but I'm able to see arguments for them as complete players.

Michael Clayton
didnt he play defense too? Ah yes, he played safety against Texas in the cotton bowl.

Is the only player in LSU history to have at least 700 yards receiving in three straight seasons … Caught at least one pass in all 40 games of his career.

One of the best all-around football players to ever play at LSU … Is listed as a wide receiver, but also plays on kickoff coverage as well as serving as LSU’s backup holder … Brings a certain toughness and attitude to the field … Separates himself from others by the intangibles he brings to the field … Is an excellent downfield blocker who prides himself in the big hit

It's true that QBs and offensive systems affect the numbers to varying degrees. Through that contextual lens, Clayton's numbers look even better.
With offensive systems nowadays, and how QBs are more developed and sophisticated earlier, there's a good chance the guys at the top of the record book will be overtaken by new names.
