I was told 2016-2020 that only Congress could do this
I always said Trump was missing out on a huge opportunity here, especially in lower SES communities

Um...Congress?
Must be nice to rule by fiat.
Of course, when Trump tries it he's locked up in years long legal battles.

Terrible decision just to buy votes. In the big scheme of things, it won’t change a lot at the DEA level. They don’t work cases on marijuana and haven’t since the 80s and then you needed a barge full to meet the level they were required to work.

Don’t have a problem with this.
There was no reason it should have been on the same schedule as cocaine, heroin, and other hard street drugs.

“The Federal Bureau of Narcotics (FBN) was established in 1930, and the naming of Harry J. Anslinger as its director was the beginning of the war on marijuana. With the help of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, Anslinger began the campaign to make marijuana illegal at the federal level.”
Anslinger had a train full of g-men with nothing to do when prohibition ended. W. Randolph Hearst had huge tracts of forest for his newspaper business that were threatened by the use of hemp for paper and rope. They went on a nationwide tour to frighten people about the black folk and Mexicans and weed. Then Nixon, seeing a chance to stick it to anti-war protesters made it schedule 1.
That’s how we got here

He's trying to do whatever he can to retain the minority vote.

quote:long overdue
Once OMB signs off, the DEA will take public comment on the plan to move marijuana from its current classification as a Schedule I drug, alongside heroin and LSD. It moves pot to Schedule III, alongside ketamine and some anabolic steroids

Hopefully the potheads will be too stoned to remember to vote

This is long overdue. The blind pigs in DC stumble onto an acorn. Will wonders never cease.

Weed has never been my thing, but I've been cool with its legalization for a very long time.
