LIV to play year end championships at Bolingbrook Golf Course in Chicago

An average muni course with a $75 tee time
Look, LIV needs to punt America. It’s clear it’s not wanted here and they have success overseas. Lean into that. I think with their unlimited budget they could do so much better with management and marketing especially

I legitimately think they would punt America if the PIF did not want to have dealings in the US.
It clearly hasn’t been a successful league as of now, but we still don’t know what the merger looks like so probably too early to say with certainty how things will finish for the league and PIF in general.

I wouldn't say that makes a course terrible. Memorial averages around $75 if you merge resident and non resident fees, and that one seems to be universally praised by the podcasts I listen to. Having said that, I know nothing about Bolingbrook.

This will be their 3rd year in a row going to Chicago. They were at Rich Harvest Farms the past two years, but it looks like Bolingbrook is a little closer to downtown Chicago.
quote:
“It’s been decided that after two successful seasons at Rich Harvest Farms, the club’s membership will not have any disruptions to its play this year,” Rich Harvest Farms General Manager Jonathan Meagher told Golfweek. “We are pleased to see that LIV Golf continues to have an event in the Chicagoland area.”

The 13th tournament of the season, the LIV Golf Chicago event will determine team seeds for the 2024 Team Championship (location to be announced), crown the season’s individual champion and solidify player status for 2025. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, May 8.
“The passionate sports fans of Chicago have embraced the intense competition and fan-first experience that LIV Golf delivers, and this year it will be an incredible setting for a high-stakes event as players battle it out for the individual title and a roster spot for 2025,” said Commissioner and CEO Greg Norman.

Having said that, I know nothing about Bolingbrook.
Designed by famed architect Arthur Hills and partner Steve Forrest, Bolingbrook Golf Club, located just 30 miles from downtown Chicago, features a 156-yard island green on its signature 15th hole. The 7,104-yard layout offers rolling fairways and elevated greens winding around seven lakes. Selected by the PGA Tour as one of the host venues for the Forme Tour in 2021, Bolingbrook will host this year’s LIV Golf Chicago event

Not exactly a big time golf league, but they did get OWGR points.
The Forme Tour was a men's professional golf tour played in the United States. The tour was created by the PGA Tour in 2021 in response to COVID-19 pandemic related restrictions on travel between the United States and Canada, in order to provide competition for non-Canadian PGA Tour Canada members, with entry also available through a series seven of Q-School events. Eight tournaments were initially announced, to be held between June and September. The tournaments offered Official World Golf Ranking points, and the top five players on the points list at the end of the season gained Korn Ferry Tour membership for the 2022 season.[1][2]

Why would you highlight PGA Tour but not Forme Tour? When they were scrambling for events that could host a mini-tour event during COVID, not looking to host the individual championship of a league with unlimited funds.
The tour isn’t holding the Tour Championship there.

Auburn University Club also hosted an event as did the Purdue Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
For as much as pride talks shite about LIV, you sure do as much simping for anything they do

The criticism of the venue just seems petty. Where are they supposed to go? Olympia Fields?
Chicago is obviously a good market for them & it will be a huge event for LIV. Niemann & Rahm (maybe Gooch) battling for the $18M individual championship
There’s a big difference in someone shitposting about something they don’t like vs someone posting about something they are a fan of.
I am a fan of LIV Golf, but even I can admit that I won’t watch much of this event. Hard to compete with LSU Football @ South Carolina and NFL on Sunday

You and OKTiger are the same way on the opposite end of the spectrum. If the Saudis took a shite on a tee box and called it a course you’d claim it was widely successful.

If the Saudis
people still use this to criticize LIV? When will they start calling the PGA Tour a “Saudi-backed league”?

Really? You don't think the Tour Championship being held at a public golf course on GolfNow would be criticized? I can guarantee that Bolingbrook wasn't on their initial list.
It's not even rated in the top 10 public Chicago courses by Golfweek.

I mean that really doesn't matter. Memorial Park is under $50 and the pros raved about it. There's a lot of fair things to criticize LIV about, but they actually play some pretty awesome courses each week. No idea about this course, but they aren't playing bad courses.

The endless money let's them keep playing in the US. But I agree, they definitely do much better overseas, which is one of their goals honestly. I feel like they have to keep some tournaments in the states to help stay relevant in the minds of US golf fans though, even if they are losing a ton of money. Which they clearly don't care if they do.

If PIF put up millions for my home course to host, i'd bet they could get it looking great for a tournament. I also get trying to get close to downtown Chi.

Everyone is hating on the course, but a bunch of pga tour courses would be $70 on golfnow if they didn't have tour money in maintenance and a brand based on the tour going there. TPC Scottsdale, TPC Louisiana, Memorial, PGA National, and Silverado are hardly great golf courses.

20/54 golfers are American & probably 85% of LIV Golfers still live in US. I think having 6 or 7 out of 14 events in US is fair.

That's more expensive than Bethpage Black. What's your point? How about waiting to see what the course looks like for a tournament setup?
Most courses with a relationship with the PGA, LPGA, Champions, or Korn Ferry aren't likely to do business with LIV out of solidarity with the PGA. Another selection of courses won't do business with LIV because muh blood money. That leaves a very small group of courses to choose from.
I saw some pictures of this course and it looks like it could be setup nicely. Has an island green for one of the holes.

Doral
Greenbrier
Golf Club of Houston
Are all former PGA Tour venues in the US. Doral is one of the great championship courses in golf.
Bedminster was supposed to host the 2022 PGA Championship.
It's been hit and miss not all trash.

Australia was a success. Spain will be a success. South Africa would work. Do that

Why do you care what LIV does? Is more professional golf a bad thing? Why would they care what you want them to do with their money?
