I assume you meant “habitable” to avoid the double-negative. Most of that land is uninhabitable.

No, it isn't, but thanks for confirming you've never been there.

I should count the ways. I too have spent time there in Moscow during Putin. I would rather Buenos Aires under Kirchner. For starters reliable electricity and hot water....and good produce. Produce there sucks. Wanna build something, maybe buy a house? Good luck....maybe in 15 years.
Freedom of speech or criticizing the government? You only think it is "unbearable" today in the States. There....it's not that you could lose your job, you will lose your job. Corruption. As opposed to many industrialized countries the US is not that bad if you want to do business. For the most part it's minimal. In Russia, it is the standard. Have a 6 month time line.....good call me in 12 months and let's see if it is even 60 to 70% complete. Now I could get it sped up if I want to pay double...maybe. Mexican labor > Russian labor and it isn't close.
Crime....don't think they don't have their fair share of violent crime in Moscow or St Pete. They have it. People disappear all the time. The vory have the run of the place with Putin's blessing. Cops are not necessarily your friends there either . I could go on .

Yeah, Russian families. I'm sure there are some expats that have lived there for a while because of business. But I knew guys who had been there for 8 years for work in the oil business, got paid well, then came back to the States and all of their reactions were that of utter relief.

I used to be friends with quite a few wealthy people on the Northshore when the Russian stock exchange was all the rage.
When it eventually crashed they kept everything or said "please, try to come get it ".

American culture is creating cultural dissidents. Not necessarily political but definitely cultural.

Definitely would prefer Auckland, Wellington. Christchurch or Dunedin to living in Moscow or St Petersburg or Novgorod. Hmmmm......do I want reliable services from the municipality? That I pay taxes for????? Nah I hate the paved roads, the reliable electricity, clean water ( forgot that)) and good quality food. I'd take NZ every day over Russia....or Argentina, and I like Argentina. I'd take the US everyday over all of them.

Just move to a super rural area and you'll be fine

normal healthy place to raise a family
Low life expectancy (for males its in the late 50s)
High rates of smoking
High rates of alcoholism and drug abuse
High rates of abortion
Low rates of marriage and child birth
One of the most corrupt countries in the world
No clear and free access to own property
Hard to travel on a Russian passport
My guess is that after they get a good taste of that life, that they'll be back

I'm too old now besides I want my damn SSI I paid into. These days though, I think if I were younger with a family I might consider moving out of the country too. My nephew is looking at Georgia, not ours...Tblisi.

Didn't NZ go full authoritarian during convid-19?
Posted on 4/30/24 at 11:59 am to No Colors
Yeah, they very well may, but they don't strike me as the drinking, smoking and murdering babies types. The rest- America doesn't lack for corruption and if you think you own your property, try not paying your property tax.

Were you forced to get the jabs?

There's a big difference between paying a tax that's basically equivalent to one tenth of one percent of your land's value every year.... versus literally not having title to the property at all.
If I go buy some land in rural America, and shut the gate, and pay a few hundred dollars in taxes, no one will bother me. For years or even decades.
That's just not true in places like Russia. If the government isn't asking for their share, it's the mafia.
