I said Jay Cutler. How does that sound?

They’re talking about ceiling, augie
No I get it. But we’re saying his ceiling is a top 8 qb. If even one GM felt that way he would’ve been gone long before the 5th round.
What are the physical holes in his game that drop him?
Because for a ceiling, that's really all I would look at.
Like, remember Garrett Grayson or whatever his name was, that Payton got us all excited about when he picked him... and then we saw him rear back and throw it as far as he could, and the ball went something like 45 yds? His ceiling was low, because he couldn't make throws downfield.
Far as I've seen, Rattler can make every throw you ask him to.
He's flashed at times in college. That seems to be the standard for some QBs, don't see why you wouldn't apply that to him too.

Dude might be a fighter. We could use one.
He is a fighter and took a lot of shite and moved on to have a decent finish at a school with little weapons and nothing to lose.
He has been known to feast or famine. If he's off he gets in his head and falls apart.
If he's on he's hitting everything and balling out.
Needs consistency and he could be fine pickup.

Was horrible until he hit his early to mid 30’s. We don’t have time for that.

Probably a slightly Edgier version of Derek Carr tbh

Should've doubled up with Michael pratt.
That’s what I was saying. If you luck out and get your franchise quarterback, you’re set for 10-15 years.

That’s some high pressure for a 5th rounder (would take Purdy type lightning in a bottle) to break that group.
We're talking ceiling in this thread. Not our actual expectations. As far as 5th round QBs go, he's unusually talented

Yep. There's talent there to be even better than Cutler, especially if we keep pairing him with talented offensive coaches. His ceiling isn't Mahomes/Burrow/Allen BUT i do think he could be a top 10 QB in that tier with Cousins/Dak both of whom were 4th round picks.
I don't expect him to get there. We aren't that lucky as a franchise. But you don't win the lottery if you don't at least buy a ticket, and he's in a good situation where nothing is going to be expected of him for the next year or two. Having a year or two to sit and learn helps even the QBs who turn out to be career backups.

Some guys are pocket statues and will never hurt you running. Some guys are Daniel's and can kill you with the run. And some guys know when to run and hurt you.

I honestly have no idea what his ceiling will be, but he is the 1st QB taken in forever that I have actually been excited to see what he can do.

The draft is always a deal where draft potential vs risk vs draft capital.
I gotta say getting Rattler in the 5th round vs Nix or Penix in the first is a pretty good value.
As a 5th round pick vs other 5th round QB’s over time? I’d say his potential ceiling is high.
He has the tools. Big arm. Mobile. Toughness.
Can he mentally be “that” guy to be an NFL starter? We will see. My guess is he starts a few games this year bcs Carr get dinged and we will have a better sense.
I like him.

Ceiling? I’d say Tyrod Taylor

McCarthy seems to be picked because he's 'a winner', which is more of a team thing than what he actually did.
McCarthy also has elite tools.
He's fast as frick and has a very strong arm. It's not just intangibles, but allegedly his are off the charts.
Now, his production in college was very meh. Is he a Justin Herbert (Toolsy guy who was held back by a bad offense) or a Mitch Turbiskky? Time will tell.
