Welp, time to find out how to annex our neighborhood in. We're a block from the StG boundary border and I would rather not have to move to another state to give my family a better quality of life.

Feel like I first read about this while putting my 2 year old to bed. He’s going into middle school now

Good.
Glad people are trying to improve their neighborhood and take control over their own city instead of just moving to a suburb.
If they find success or failure from here on….it’s entirely on them.

I mean, this is essentially what I'm going to be forced to do. I'll see how this plays out over the next few years. This has drastically affected my long term plans for living here.

The end of the road we live on in our neighborhood is in St George.
We personally would never directly benefit from a new school system though. Our youngest kid is a JR.

You’re still in Louisiana regardless, an imaginary boundary isn’t going to make that big of a difference

Mine is still in daycare. This really wouldn't affect us much until maybe middle school (ideally elementary). I can justify spending on private school at the earlier ages, but there's no way I can fathom the idea of sending my kid to private high school with the price of tuition in EBR. It's outrageous.

Take the home we have now and the land surrounding and I'm going to have to pay nearly triple for it in any of the states I'd like to live in. Not to mention finding new employment (not the toughest but a pain nonetheless), figuring out family, etc.
I like where I'm at now because of everything available to us. Magnet/charter schools are okay, but since Landry wants to gut the public education system, this will only make the magnet/charter options to us worse. I will have to fork out something at the end of all of this.

Mayor Broome screwed herself here. The governor appoints the first leadership of the new city. When the election occurred that would have been JBE. He would have very likely had someone in there that was somewhat hostile to the new city, and it definitely would have been one of his Democrat buddies.
By Broome prolonging this, a Republican governor will now make that appointment.
I introduce Mayor, Kip Holden, City of Saint George.

Private elementary school is a gateway drug. It's sometimes the same as daycare or less so it doesn't seem so bad. They you look down and you are paying 15k/yr when they are in HS

Daycare for us is $11k/year (food included) not including diapers/wipes, but add that it's for 52 weeks and not just from September - May. Easily justifiable.
Again, I am torn on all of this. The city could've saved itself if it were not for horrible leadership. StG absolutely tried to do some shady stuff in drawing out their maps. It SHOULD be up to StG to make this work financially. BR should've done more to keep StG from happening instead of fighting them.
I guess we'll see how this all plays out.

Why not do catholic school?

Now that St. George has been approved, over/under on how long it takes Shreveport to resume the discussion on 'Ellerbe Bluffs'? I think it's less than a year.

Welcome to the club baw….. your choice to live where you live. Most of us on here who live in Louisiana are paying for Catholic / private school. It’s almost a shitty thing not do for your child if you can somewhat afford it….

Somebody please ask Sharon Hyphen Broome if she put all of St. George's money in an escrow account., holding in wait for the decision.
It should have all been in escrow. I’m betting it wasn’t.
What I am betting the city does is negotiate the amount that St George would owe in unfunded pensions against what is in “escrow” that way the city doesn’t have to show that the money is gone

Yes. I chose where I wanted to live based on a lot of things. This absolutely derails my plan unless we somehow annex into the city.
"StG incorporation" was never on my bingo card when buying this house.

Awesome news for BR.

That legacy pension amount is set by a law mentioned in the case.
It wasn’t as high as BR was claiming in court, meaning it may not help them as much as they are hoping.
