I wonder when he'll finally say screw it and go for what he can actually clear in a meet. Right now its more lucrative with his contract structure to break the WR incrementally frequently then setting it at something untouchable, but i imagine at some point he'll want it to be something thats hard/impossible to get to leave his mark on the sport.

As long as Sweden keeps giving him a 6 figure bonus for breaking the world record, he's going to keep breaking it by centimeters each time.
As he should.

Correct. Mondo knows just how high he can go.
He is going to keep breaking it by just a little until he hits whatever his max is.
Smart move

It's a shame he has to go compete for Sweden over the USA because of the financial incentives and easier path to Olympics that country gives him.
He will end up the most decorated pole vaulter in track and field history by the times he's done!

It seems like we see this headline almost every few months, and it looked like he could have cleared by a large margin.
What is the usual "peak" of a pole vaulter, because Mondo seems to still be ascending.

It always interesting to me, especially in Olympic sports, how one person can be this much more dominant than everyone else.
We've seen it over the last couple decades with Phelps, Bolt and Ledecky, and now with Mondo. It's just crazy to me because, other than Bolt, it's not like any of the other three look physically dominant than their competition, but then it's like they are playing a whole different sport from the rest.

the world record was 6.14 from 1994-2016 and then Lavillenie pushed it to 6.16m and that stuck till 2020. Duplantis has pushed it all the way up to 6.24 and no one seems to be close. hes literally generational.
The most Olympic gold
medals is only 2. if Mondo wins another he’s in rare air, and he’s a great age to be in prime form for a 3rd.

Track & Field is also just looked at differently by sports fans and businesses in Europe than here in the United States. He's much more marketable in Sweden than in the U.S.

For alot of the Olympic type sports, I think it’s a combo of a generally small talent pool of people who actually have access & financial ability to do the sport + being from a long line of athletes in the sport who brings their kids into them early.
You have that rare combo of talent + athleticism + familial knowledge of the sport with Mondo when it all comes together to give us the goat of the sport essentially.
