I kind of will allow it, though. They did have a pretty good bit of success, but always came in for scathing criticism because of the Christian thing. I think they have been consigned to the "obscure" heap and presumed to be dummies. But all members were highly skilled and they were a great band
Stryper headlined at least two major arena tours in the late 80’s. I went to multiple shows during both tours. At the same time Poison was headlining arena tours and the Stryper shows were sell outs in the same venues that Poison failed to sell out. Despite being shuffled off to the side by music publications and critics the fan support was most definitely there. The media was trying to make them irrelevant because they didn’t know exactly how to categorize them but their music was as good or better than 98% of the stuff coming out at that time. Sold out arena tours, gold and platinum albums, multiple top five songs requested on MTV makes it clear that there were many people who noticed them.

All these bands dominate my music rotation. Steelheart had one radio hit, but their best album is Tangled in Reins which is obscure. Danger Danger debut album is really good.
Agree on Stryper still being legit. Always there for you and I believe in you were big on MTV but very little radio play.
Baton Rouge is really solid. And just discovered Roxy Blue.
For the RATT fans, check out Arcade with Stephen Pearcy on vocals and Fred Coury from Cinderella.

I'm sure back in 85 and 86 what you are saying probably happened. Wish I had gotten to see them then.
I can still remember when Honestly appeared on the Dial MTV list or whatever. I loved it from the start.

Badlands is one of my favorite bands of all time from any genre.

I thought Tesla was going to be huge when they broke out in the mid 80’s.
