The only reason you're getting downvotes is because folks have gotten used to it. But the fact of the matter is that's the worst casting in any blockbuster I've ever seen. fricking horrible.

Ralph Fiennes as Francis Dolarhyde in The Red Dragon.
The character in the book was over 6'6" tall and a body builder. Fiennes is a good actor, but he could not pull of the intimidation factor that the original character had.

Really dislike Tom Hanks in the Da Vinci code.

Michael Gambon as Dumbledore
Solid actor, but Richard Harris nailed the role for those that read the books. He just didn't quite stick the landing with this character.

The poor bastard who played Annikan Skywalker. Was he just a horrible actor or was it not his fault?

James Stewart was poorly casted in Rear Window, but not poorly cast.

Iron Claw was a solid movie but it was terribly miscast. The guy who played Ric Flair. The guy who played Bruiser Brody. The guy who played Kerry Von Erich. Heck, even Zack Efron as Kevin.

It may be a controversial hot take, but I think that Alec Baldwin came closest to capturing who Jack Ryan truly was, per Clancy's works.
Definitely agree.
Hate Ford in that role. Didn't fit at all.

quote:I’ve read every book in the series, and I disagree. In the novels, Jack’s father was a cop, and his mother was a nurse. Solid middle class background from Baltimore. Baldwin played the character much more efete than the character in the books, almost like an old Boston Brahmin. Baldwin’s Ryan would have been a Navy officer, not a Marine.

Dane DeHaan in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. He was actually 31 at the time, but looked like he was 19. Not that it would have saved the movie, but the part called for a seasoned-looking man akin to Han Solo. DeHaan could have easily passed as a high school kid.

imagine for a second, they cast a 5th Element Bruce Willis clone.
Hell, put Jason Statham in it, and it would likely have been a blockbuster. And the way Valerian is written,
He much prefers to be a man of action than sitting around pondering what course to take next.
The early stories present Valérian as a typical square-jawed hero figure, who is strong and dependable (although an early running joke was that despite being a time-traveller he is always running late, especially when summoned by his boss). However, as the series progresses, he is increasingly portrayed as somewhat knuckle-headed.
Statham could pull that off.

I'm a huge fan of the LOTR trilogy, but have never really liked the choice of Elijah Wood as Frodo.
To be fair, the screenwriters basically wrote him as a damsel in distress, which he played pretty well (and that was NOT Frodo from the books).
Frodo is tough to cast. He's basically a pretty brave, intelligent and competent guy, in way over his head, but determined to see it through and has a fair understanding of what he has to do. That seems like a role a lot of leading men can take, but then you have to have him physically look almost childlike.

He was so brutally bad.
Morgan Freeman and then Sean Connery just made him look even worse.
He’s not a good actor at all. He’s good playing himself.
Great topic OP.

Ryan Reynolds as Van Wilder... now that we all know the movie was about Bert Kreischer.
