Upcoming 3 day Chandeleur Trip

I'm booked for a 3 dayfirst of May out of Biloxi. I haven't done a Chandy trip in probably 3 decades, but my Pops said he would like to do it again and he is 73 so I booked it. I don't know how many more fishing trips I'll have with him so I'm trying to cherish any we have left. Plus the offshore fishing is getting harder and harder on him. I've put together tackle bags and some rods and reels from researching and watching Youtube videos, but was curious what are some of Y'alls favorite lures and any other tips for the area. Another positive is that it motivated me to dig out some of my deceased Paw-Paws old red and green ambassedeurs to use. I sent them off to be cleaned and repaired if needed and will be fishing them in the same waters he did 50 years ago. I've bought a bunch of H&H plastics, trout support, DOA shrimp, Heddon one knockers and woodie corks. What else do y'all like to use for trout?
ETA: TLDR version
What's your favorite trout lures?

We've always had decent luck with Matrix Shad's, usually Limbo Slice or Holy Joely, all usually under a popping cork. Also, like swimming the Mirrodine/Mirrolures. Always fun and pretty successful to throw a topwater early in the morning.
The captains should let y'all know where to go, but floating the flats back and forth throwing while you float was our best luck. Figure out current, drive to the start, kill the motor and float to the end, then do it all over again.
Edit: The birds are 80% of the time just Lady Fish, fun but not worth it for the most part if you see a big group hitting bait.

Make sure to have a few big suspending hard body baits like a mirrodines or catch 2000s and have something that you can rig weedless as sometimes the grass can get thick.

Mirrodines, walking topwater baits, matrix shad/jigheads (3/8oz or less. 1/4 is generally best), and TKO shrimp with popping corks. Those are the staples.

Oh yea, I bought several packs of matrix shads as well. The trout support are rigged to be weedless and are a suspending bait that is worked like a topwater. Also picked up several H&H weedless spoons. I took the responsibility of getting all the tackle for all 3 boats as some of my group have never done any trout fishing. So far I have spent a small fortune on inshore gear, but I figure as I age I will probably want to do alot more inshore fishing than offshore. I also picked up several Paul Brown Fat Boy's.

Went our of Biloxi not that long ago. Once of my favorite trips ever. I caught fish on most of the usual stuff, but best were on soft dines and Matrix shads in opening night. The guy I was paired with was doing well on the old Mann's Stingray grubs in a weird motor oil looking color that had a tint of red in it.

Y’all are going to have fun.
I still fish with my Red and Black ambassadeurs. I have 5000’s, 6000’s and 7000’s.
Also a box full of Boone yellow and white shad rigs, Boone Trout Touts, local made Sparkle Beetle’s. Some have Jones Sporting Goods stickers on them.
I love fishing with my old stuff.

Man I haven’t heard the name Jones Sporting goods in a long time. Shad rigs have caught boat loads of specks before all these fancy soft baits were thought of.

My most used out there are matrix and DOA cal shads in white/chartruese tail, purple, and dark green.
Depends on how that current is moving where you're at - I'd take a full range of jig head sizes.

First Chandy trip I ever made was on the Due South in 1988. We anchored in that bay behind the lighthouse (RIP) with all the other Chandy boats. In the evening you could hear music and laughing and people carrying on. I was 16 but I remember that night, the smell of the grill, the ocean, and the sunset.
About 9 o'clock I hear something and it's a sea plane circling us. And one of the other boats starts flashing its lights on and off. The sea plane lines up for a landing, and taxis up to that boat.
One of the deckhands is out there with me, and I turn to him like: "So what is that all about?" And he just nods and says: "That's a plane load of whores they flew out from New Orleans"
For a 16yo kid, it was like being in an episode of Miami Vice

How about West Bros. , Howard Bros, and Gibson’s. I have baits from all of them. 50 years old and older.
I even have some popping bugs from Accardo Tackle in Baton Rouge.
Dr Tommy Kilroy ( BR Orthopedic and LSU Team Doctor ) used to work there as a kid painting those bugs. The place was in his neighborhood. He couldn’t believe it when I pulled some out of my box one day.

I’ll be out there this weekend. I mostly fish with the below.
Topwater - red head/white body or bone colored
Suspending twitch bait - Mirrodine, Soft-dine, etc…
Soft plastic with 1/8 oz jig head. I like Down South Lures. Something natural colored. Might also pack a purple or chartreuse in case water is murky (it’s usually clear).
I’ve seen these. Think they are called grass walkers. Will work great

Heh - a friend nicknamed a rig south of Fourchon the Titty Rig. Because it was just out of Federal waters and at times whores would be on a boat there and show their wares to passing fishermen. So I've heard.

Dad fished it many afternoons after work on the industrial canal. His company had a float plane and the pilot was a buddy. Gear and a metal Coleman full of beer and fish until sunset and head back home. Time line was 1965 the golden age for the chandeliers.

You going on Saturday? I think I’ll be out there in my skiff
For the OP, mirrolure lil John’s on Texas custom 1/8th oz jig heads did well for me last time out there. Tried to throw topwaters but the floating grass made it tough.

You're going to have an incredible memory with your pop. Get some 52M18 mirror lures if they still have them, best trout lure ever. A couple of good spooks and chuggers for early/late top water and some big plastic swim baits and you should be able to really get on some good trout.

I’ll be wading out of a heron 16, dark grey hull with white cap. Come say high if you have a chance
