Now it the "hate" coming out of cities and colleges is much more militant.
What makes it almost funny is that when they graduate right around 0% will start their own business and 100% will get a job at a company that only exists because some millionaire or billionaire risked everything to start that company. The irony is really something.

Karl Marx wasn’t even alive during the French Revolution and it was basically because it sucked to be poor.
Some of hating “the rich” is jealousy.
Some of it is believing it’s impossible to get rich without extraction of labor for less than it’s worth.
Some definitions of “rich” vary wildly from others. For example, compared to the proverbial “starving child in Africa”, everyone in America is rich beyond measure.
Personally, I believe there is a point it becomes “too much”. Taylor swift, bezos, et al. couldn’t spend all their money over the course of multiple lifetimes. When I think of “the rich”, I think of them. Everyone’s frame of reference is different.

When did this sentiment start
To the extent it’s so, it started before recorded history. There is much less hatred of the rich than used to exist before capitalism radically increased upward mobility. Now, almost anyone can realistically strive to be rich. In the waning years of the 19th century the Parisians were guillotining the rich. And in the 20th century we saw a lot of rich people persecuted by the commies. You don’t see that sort of things nowadays.
I’ve never noticed animosity toward rich people. Politicians are able to use the rich as a way of theoretically paying for benefits that accrue to the poor or middle class, but that’s just the natural desire of people to tax someone other than themselves.

Some of it is based on the fact that the rich and powerful get away with things others can’t. This duel system of justice angers people.

Yeah I said that all ready.
Justice, immunity and even people have a price tag. You're a rich old man? Just buy you a woman.
It's ridiculous how people will literally die over money that they can't take with them when they die.

Since about 40 Anno Domini
Matthew 19:24
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

It is the wealthy against the uberwealthy... Each side tries to court the lower classes to get the vote. It has been the same throughout history. This is why the Caesars threw coins and put on spectacles.

Well, this really depends on how you value the labor. Who are you to determine what labor is worth?

Because they want what they have. No one hates on the guy below them, always someone above.

Maybe it'll buy them a golden ticket to heaven.

I don't hate myself or any of the other OT Ballers on here.

why does the media push this narrative?
They'll push anything for ratings and human beings are stupid creatures. It has been proven that the angrier people get, the more they engage with content of all types.

I don't know how things got so backward
Well, self-determination to the degree that (some of us) embrace it in the US is a fairly recent phenomenon in human history. Most of history more or less revolves around a caste/class system that you are born into and out of which you could not climb.
We still can't quite believe that you can write your own ticket to the limit of your ability and determination.
Karl Marx didn't help, either.

It’s the human condition. Why do people outside of L.A. hate the Lakers.
I’m not rich, but I’m decently well off. It is fricking hard in my business to even make a living let alone be successful and comfortable. My line of work is the kind of thing where that can change at the drop of a hat, so maybe I will be rich one day, but even if I’m not, I don’t hate rich people. I wish I had their money, but I see how hard they work. Most rich people I know had an insane alien-like work ethic, good ideas, unheard-of self motivation… etc. You have to see that in action to really understand what it takes. My orthopedic surgeon friend makes a million a year (on the low side) with his own practice, what people don’t see is the fact that he was working 120 hours a week basically for free for a couple years, while he was dead broke, right out of an Ivy League med school which took forever and is pretty much impossible for 99.99% of people.
There’s this oversimplification with the younger crowd that CEO’s / business owners just “lucked in” to their millions and now they just sit at a desk and play video games. They look at guys like John Schattner and basically force him out of his own company for being “racist” not realizing he made his own recipe with used restaurant equipment that he spent what little money he had to get. I talked to a guy once who called Trump a trust fund billionaire because he got that 3 million dollar loan from his dad or whatever it was. I said, you know he’s a billionaire now, though, right? I know he got more money after his dad passed away, but this dude I was talking to actually had the audacity to say if I gave him 3 million he’d become a billionaire too. There are people who really do think that.
Some people have advantages that put them in a better position, but the people who aren’t rich can’t comprehend how hard it is to actually be successful and be rich, so instead of learning from them and trying to lift themselves up, it’s much easier to tear them down.

People don’t hate normal rich people
People hate rich people who think they are hot shite on social media (like celebrities, artists, movie stars, athletes) - you know.. the ones who try to teach the world that we poor people are the problems and we should listen to them on their instagrams

I'm not hyper into church religion but
Matthew 6:19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where it grows rusty and moth eaten, and thieves break in and steal it.
Matthew 6:24 No servant can be a servant to two masters for either he will hate the first and love the second, or he will be devoted to the first and think nothing of the second. You cannot serve God and money.

It is a resentment of people who have not only got money but an outsized influence and use their influence in ways that provoke the lower classes. Don't you want to slap the shite out of Bill Gates when he advocates a diet of insects even though no bug will ever touch his own lips?
