I felt lied to as a southerner once I explored New England.
New England is great. With a 2-3 hour drive in any direction you have seemingly endless outdoor options to explore from lakes to rivers to oceans to (small) mountains, plus a ton of very nice small towns. Outside of a few giant cities it’s just great if you like country/outdoor living.
Lyme disease is a concern.

Never lived but visited New Hampshire several times. Beautiful countryside and it has some of the loosest gun laws in the nation. The political climate isn’t conservative but it’s definitely much more centrist compared to MA, CT, and NY.

Yes, I lived in NH as a kid.
Everyone hates everyone in Boston. They act like people just hate the blacks, but the Irish hate the Italians who hate the blacks, ect ect.

Natives can be crazy aloof toward flatlanders (you) and anyone else they haven't known for years.
============
New Englander joke:
Flatlander gal says, "I wasn't born here, but at least my kids will be native New Englanders."
Old New Englander replies: "If your cat has kittens in the oven, ya don't call 'em muffins do ya?"
============
Vs. Texan joke:
Q: How do you get a one-armed Texan out of a tree?
A: Wave.

I was conceived in Boston. Dad was finishing up his master's degree at MIT. Never lived there after I was born though. My parents were in a hurry to get back to God's country.

It’s great. Lived here for 10 years now and will never go back to Louisiana.
I can get in my car and drive 3 hours or less and be:
At the beach
Skiing
Hiking
In New York City
In the Cape or Martha’s Vineyard
Touring the mansions of Newport
Drinking beers in Vermont
Eating lobster in Maine
Hell, another couple hours in the car and I am in Montreal.
The school system is great, we have the best healthcare in the country, the city is very walkable and the train is convenient. Plus I can and do fly to Europe faster or in the same amount of time as it takes to get to California.

Boston to Dublin on Aer Lingus is a ridiculously good redemption.

We're talking about Dubai. I have 350k Emirates miles that are dying to be spent.

Flying business class emirates with the full bar and all for the first time in August to Germany. Or Austria…I can’t remember which. But I’m excited for that flight.
