Borderline gpa due to Covid and stupidly doing homeschool at home for two years. Bad decision on our part. Great since she has been in brick and mortar at a really good school. SAT good.

They’re all ‘working from home’

This can be a stressful time, hopefully things work out for your child. We were told by an LSU admissions guy that this year has been the most applicants they’ve ever received, I think the number was 50kish. Also it’s the highest average ACT for accepted students they’ve ever had. Maybe the higher number of applicants is slowing some responses down a little bit from the LSU side.

If you have below a 3.0 highschool gpa and aren’t a football recruit then yes you would get rejected by lsu.
I know quite a few folks that got into LSU that didn't meet this criteria

It did around 2015/2017 when my daughter went there. Now I think it’s a free for all based on DEI.

I’m not sure what the problem is but my kid got the acceptance email and follow up letter from LSU in February. Only school applies to and never wanted to consider anywhere else. We both attended and will have two there as of this fall.

I used to work in admissions at LSU. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the following is the issue:
1. STS - the state transcript system - hasn’t loaded your daughter’s transcript to state schools that she indicated an interest in on the ACT yet (or it has and they are just stuck in cyber space). Call LSU and find out. If this is the case, demand that her school manually emails the transcript to LSU (preferably her representative at LSU). This email must come directly from her guidance counselor though.
2. Your daughter doesn’t meet 100% of the requirements and maybe meets most of them, putting her in an exception pool that someone higher up in Admissions has to arbitrarily decide when and how to consider those in her situation. If this is the case, you need to contact LSU and her recruiter/representative every day and point out why she needs to be admitted. Don’t bother with mentioning all the extra curricular activities because they don’t mean shite to LSU, I promise you that. If there were extenuating circumstances - actually significant things out of her control that may have caused her GPA to be a little lower - then put those in writing and email it to the admissions representative, the director of admissions, and whoever else you can find higher up. The provost would be a decent one as well. You want to be on their radar when it’s time for reception pool to be considered.
3. Her school counselor is dragging feet with getting info to LSU.

good friends of ours had this same happening last year. they ended up coming with us to one of those tiger things......and after the tours etc of that day, in the student union area they waited for an hour to speak to someone in person, and their son was accepted that day. really no red flags for him either. private school, 3.8gpa, some extracurricular activities etc......just never was informed until they sat there that day and inquired about it.

College choice should be focused on fit and not family alumni or sports allegiance.
Set your kid up with the best chance of success by going to a school that wants your kid. Your kid should be in the top 25% of that college’s (GPA/SAT-ACT) attendees. They will get Merit money and be able to finish in 4 years, or under. Uni’s love the 5 year, full price kids.
Those kids accepted later in the process are what the university needs to pay for the kids that they want. If you haven’t heard by now, then they don’t want your kid.

Have you talked to her about becoming a welder?

My daughter is a sophmore and has been getting a decent amount of "recruiting mail" from universities across the northeast, big and small, public and private.
We live in Louisiana.
She has not gotten a single piece of mail from any Louisiana school.

They now send your application through 3 people to get to know you as a person and not just test numbers. Why? So they accept minorities with bad grades.
Last year, my nephew applied and we didn’t hear back until 1 week before decision deadline. We met all the criteria and got in. He chose to go to an out of state school instead. I couldn’t be happier.
LSU is not the same as it was 20 years ago.

Great response and yes we have done all of the above things you mentioned. Thank you. Everything is there. We have added an essay. We have updated their grades from highschool up to even two weeks ago. Think we are just waiting for them to hear back but she is borderline and they do t want to tell her no.

Have you heard it’s the 2nd lowest rated school in the sec?
Posted on 4/9/24 at 12:53 pm to MrWhipple
I fully agree to this and she has gotten into stronger schools. It is just kind of annoying as dad when your whole life they were growing up watching sports with you and you talked about going to games etc. LSU has always been a big part of our relationship.

My BIL was like this but towards Arkansas. He went to AR a couple of years before frat life had him flunking and then he transferred to NLU at the same time as my sister. (sister encountered gender discrimination by the controlling professor of who got into the whole University of TN center for health sciences pharmacy program is why she transferred. Professor literally told her “there’s too many women in pharmacy “.)
Now that their daughter is a UGA grad he is a big GA fan!

Go somewhere cheaper, easier to get to, and safer. Get same degree, profit.
