This joker sucks. Probably a liberal that would protest at an intersection

Agree. If they had given us something - anything - to make us think he could contend with Batman. Even so much as a throwaway line from his mother, "You were so good in your chemistry and science classes in school. I wish you had stayed with it, dear" would have helped. This guy is just a harelipped loser's loser. Nothing shows his potential to be a criminal mastermind.
Righteous take.
There was nothing, nada, zip that gave us any indication at all that he was something more than a Walmart spree shooter.

I do wonder how they’ll handle Harley falling for Joker in this one. Before he was master manipulator who preyed on Harley’s sympathy and naive nature and turned it into a toxic relationship. This version of the Joker isn’t really a master at anything and just seems really mentally unstable more likely to be considered some weird freak by women then someone they’d fall for
He became instantly famous over night and was sent to Prison/Looney Bin
Serial Killers, including Manson, get thousands of love letters from women while in prison
Its not hard to figure this one out

I will never understand the appeal of this franchise...

Well she does, so…

There is still time for this to happen. They could easily slip in a line from a news story or something that says "Arthur Fleck, former honors student and chess master, fell deep into a mental illness at a young age and never came out of it before losing his mind completely as an adult and murdering...etc."
We don't know everything about him yet. A lot of his origin story is unknown.

You want to know why they put this pathetic character in Joker paint?
For money obviously. Other than the brief scenes with Thomas and Bruce Wayne, this movie has no relation to the Batman universe. Those scenes could easily be removed or have the characters names changed and it wouldn't affect the story.

I still can’t believe the money the first Joker brought in. It was good, not great.

as someone who does not believe that the Joker needs (or should even have) an origin story, i think what would be super cool would be if they used this "franchise" to make like three or four Joker movies that were ALL origin stories, using Joaquin Phoenix in all of them, but that being the only common thread. three or four different movies that all ended up with him being the Joker different ways, then at the end of THAT series, introduce him into a new Batman universe.
to quote the Clown Prince himself - If I’m going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice.
wont happen, but damn it would be cool. and a new take on "sequels" in general.

I mean the Joker depicted in the comic the killing joke is pretty close to Arthur. He was just a regular bum that couldn't make ends meat and his wife hated him before he started helping the mafia as a low level crook

I thought it was pretyy solid but depressing. Funny thing about the first one was all the weird media attention calling it some right wing incel movie then it turns out to be one of the most progressive movies I’ve seen in a while bringing up the problems of poorly funded mental institutions, society abandoning the poor and mentally unwell, as well as having all the rich people be massive dicks

That was critics at their worst.

Well, Arleen Sorkin died and Tara Strong is in her 50's. Is your Harley Quinn Kaley Cuoco?

For VO, it's Tara Strong or bust. Live action is a different story.
I'd continue shoveling money at Margot Robbie until she stopped resisting.

That take would totally overlook what made this Joker so good.
It didn’t seem like a formulaic comic book movie. It was about mental illness and how it’s both sad, and scary when real people experience it.
I loved it. The trailer posted above captures that same sentiment- that this guy is trapped in his own mental illness, and has no coping skills to deal with it.

Does it have to be Lady Gaga? Is there no other blonde actresses out their with a less abhorrent ego?
There likely isn't.

I think the Last Jedi and chick Ghostbusters critics were the worst.
