Another old one is Sir Wilfrid Robarts, played by Charles Laughton in Witness for the Prosecution (1957).

Who spends every non-courtroom scene in the movie trying to smoke a cigar or drink alcohol even though he's been told it's bad for his heart.

There were several attempts to combine the western genre w/the cheap to shoot lawyer format. This was the only one that succeeded.

The short lived Black Saddle series starred Peter Breck as a gunfighter turned lawyer

Breck would later have a lawyer brother

Perhaps no other profession is treated as roughly by Murder, She Wrote. TV producers would be the other option. Though surprisingly, writers often come off poorly as well.

Several great villains, multiple murderers, at least one murderess (a true psychopath), and several victims whose deaths make you believe in karma.

A few exceptions to the rule.

Molly Connors in Coal Miner’s Slaugter:

William Windom before stepping into his iconic role plays a lawyer who participated in the group murder of a guy who definitely had it coming. And his motive was to save a young lady some sight embarrassment so it was almost forgivable.

And perhaps my favorite, Norman Lester:

Great call on these two. A great legal movie. Throw them in there with Atticus Finch in the top 5. Vincent LaGuardia Gambini has to be in there too.

I’m shocked that this thread has made it almost two pages and (unless I missed it) no mention of Perry Mason!

Also think that both Ben Stone and Jack McCoy deserve some recognition, as
well as Adam Schiff as the OG DA on Law & Order. Kudos to whoever mentioned Clair Kincaid.

I liked the shout out to Dan Fielding…which makes me think of Christine Sullivan is worth mentioning.
