I think a lot of it has to do with selfishness. Our grandparents, and some of our parents, generation did everything for the good of their children. Many of us the last few decades have prioritized ourselves. More kids mean less stuff for us.

Japan is far from being the most racist country out there. They do seriously hate the Chinese, but that's because of the war to a degree, as well their cultural differences go back centuries. My son has lived / worked there for going on 7 years now, happily married with 2 young daughters. He's never had any racial issues, in general or with his in laws. I've visited twice, for several weeks, & have never felt any issues. One of his best friends is a black guy from Ghana & he's said he's never had racial issues either. It is a very male dominated society, though. Western females would never make it there.

The smartphone and cost of living, and there are way more ways to occupy our time then surviving.

You won’t ever see places like Japan or South Korea allowing Illegal Immigration or taking in ‘migrants’ because they actually value their culture and way of life.
