Im sure he thinks the football team should be out there too. I agree with him.
Have you felt that way for the last 40+ years about the football team or was it such as a passionate issue that you didn’t even realize they weren’t on the field for the anthem until yesterday?

Yup. Parlayed it into three minutes of free air time on Fox.

Well I have to say I sat out the last LA Governors election, as an Independent I can't vote in any primary and in the General Election I couldn't vote for the modern DEM party at all (if Truman or JFK type DEM were running against Landry, then I would have voted for that candidate), but at the same time Landry's mindsight is like Atilla the Hun, reactionary nut job. Nothing like the Reagan GOP that I once proudly embraced who while Conservative could sit down with the SOH Tip O'Neil (Union Dem from Boston) and discuss things civilly.

He didn't take a shot at LSU tho. He just said he thinks players should have to be out there.
Putting his career first. Par for the course for Jeff Landry

Im not that old. But yes I would like to see the players be there for the anthem. Its always a special moment. "And the home of the....tigers!!!!"

I don’t think Landry should have gone as far as he did, but I don’t think he will walk around with a rapist name on his person(ex. Brees with Jacob Blake). He will likely stand on his comments.

He actually said it very explicitly in the tweet that started all of this:
quote:
It is time that all college boards, including Regent, put a policy in place that student athletes be present for the national anthem or risk their athletic scholarship! This is a matter of respect that all collegiate coaches should instill.

High Life
Put your pitch forks down and unwad your panties. He just wants to see the players be out there for the anthem. He never directly blamed LSU or Mulkey. Most of his previous tweets were cheering on the WBB team. Take a chill pill, not everything has to be an outrage. Not everyone is out to get us.
--------------------------
Just like you, Landry, and everyone else can express their opinions, so can people on this board. And he can't make people do anything they don't want to do even stand for the anthem. That's unconstitutional and damn near fascist! So you take a chill pill.

It’s different sport with different logistics, a lot more people involved to leave and then Come back that quickly, band pre-game followed by the run out, and length of time in locker rooms before the game. I also think both teams aren’t on the field for it.
Some football teams do have the anthem after the teams come out that final time before kick off, but I don’t recall LSU’s history on this or the SEC’s. I can see some coaches wanting to run out and start coin flip and kick off fairly quickly while players are still hyped up.
It is pretty amazing though how often football has been compared to women’s basketball the past several days on The Rant.
The policy should be the same for both teams playing in the game regardless of going to lockers or staying out for the anthem.

I don't think he directly blamed Mulkey but absolutely he did LSU.

We are going back to the days of all Let me Help you John McKeithen and Edwin Edwards and Dave Treen as well when the LSU BOS policy was dictated by the Governor, which is actually a problem I would think in State Law and something that Accrediting Bodies look at with disdain
The LSU BOS is constitutionally charged to govern LSU, not Landry, you would think he would know that. He gets to appoint the BOS but the Senate confirms them.
It is not his job to dictate LSU AD Policy, that is Woodward's job.
Clown show.

Calm down.
I don't necessarily agree with him on the scholarship thing. But if an organization like the SEC or NCAA makes it mandatory the players have every right to chose not to play and collect their NIL monies.
quote:
Oh, say, can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hail'd
At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watch'd
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?
There's nothing political about this song.

What did you say when JBE used the budget issue in spring 2016 saying if it was not resolved, Summer school funding would be hampered (which had like 35-40 LSU players scheduled to be enrolled) which could have impacted academic eligibility.
Guess it didn't hurt his reelection chances did it?

There was no need for him to stick his foot in his big mouth.

Does this matter now? I thought this was about the principle and the effect on LSU sports.
