When did hunting Peacocks become a thing?

Me and my son just finished a episode of MeatEater on YouTube, they were hunting turkey’s in Hawaii. The mustache guy took down a Peacock instead of a turkey. I get the no natural predators, but it’s a Peacock, how much damage to the ecosystem are they doing compared to the other animals that have been introduced?

I would think no more than a turkey. They are a beautiful bird and I would shoot the shite out of them if there was a wild population. I’m not going to shoot a tamed bird.

It’s a big thing in New Zealand but then again they do things way differently than we do so take that for what it’s worth. My 2 cents is that they weren’t good enough to kill a Hawaii rio so they stumbled upon a peacock and spun the episode to make it look like he did such a great thing for “conservation”

The peacock living off Carrolton in New Orleans does a ton of damage to cars lol

When they figured out how to get'em in a pressure cooker.

I’ve seen a video of a guy hunting them in New Zealand using dogs. It didn’t look any different than pheasant hunting, aside from the fact that he was standing on a very steep slope.

I did hear they were really good to eat

why wouldn't you hunt them?
It's a big arse bird, bound to be tasty.

All I now is they have one of the loudest and obnoxious calls of any bird I know. Good riddance...

like the said in the ME episode, its just a turkey on drugs
and they also said it tasted delicious, so why not hunt it?

I’m in SE Alabama and a few years ago at one of the places I can hunt there were 2 big males with long sharp spurs. They would hang around the barns and roost right by the farm house. One day around lunch I was by the barn and yelped down into the bottom and a bird gobbled. He gobbled again 5 minutes later and one of those damn peacocks ran past me straight to that bird and ran him off.

Are you pretending they're not a total nuisance to be around?

When, where, and who's driving?

About two mornings after they begin making that God awful, ear splitting noise all day, everyday.

No real damage to the eco system. More of a nuisance on the golf courses.

Why not both?

I haven't heard about this,
but I know someone who hunts swans.
