Pretty cool to give him another shot.

He was great in college. I don’t understand how kicking field goals would be any different in the NFL.
Also, while we’re on the topic, how is Cole Tracy not in the NFL. He was as good as it gets in college.

Notoriously difficult to kick in Cleveland being so close to the lake.

NFL expects you to make everything from within 50 yards these days and a majority of kicks under 65 yards. Cole doesn’t have that kind of leg.

He wasn’t great in college, he was horribly inconsistent from 40-49 but people forget about it because of the long kicks and none of misses really mattered.

He was 11/18 from 40-49 (5 of those misses were as a freshman) and 15/19 from 50+. What the frick are you talking about
His last 2 seasons, he was 17/22 from 40+. He missed 1 kick each year from 40-49 yards. "Not that great, horribly inconsistent" lol ok

I think he was trying too hard to take his preparation and technique to a new level when he got here, and he admitted as much himself. He felt like that he, as a highly-drafted pro, needed to rethink everything he was doing and make sure he was absolutely perfect. Basically, it seems like he was over thinking every aspect of his technique and as the misses began to pile up (and there were some bad ones) the self-doubt started to creep in. He was a mental basket case by the time he was let go. I hope in a more relaxed situation, he'll be able to regain some confidence.

Seen wayyy too many misses from inside 50 yards for him to not be in the league. The NFL is way too caught up in measurables like that and forget that the game is played on a gridiron and not in the gym.

In the NFL, anything right at 80% or lower puts you bottom five in the league.

But so many kickers dont lol. Like a ton of kickers cant make it consistently from anywhere. Saints and Lions kickers looking at yall specifically but others as well. Lions didnt even wanna kick 40 yard FGs in the NFC title game cuz the guy was inconsistent. Cole Tracy would have made the Lions NFC champs.

No it doesn’t. Those numbers include his kicks from 50+. Those aren’t just his numbers from 40-49. And even if true, someone not being elite in the NFL does not make them “not that good and horribly inconsistent” in college.
For comparison’s sake, Cole Tracey was 9/12 from 40+ at LSU. Two all-Americans who, I guess, were not that good and horribly inconsistent in college because they didn’t measure up to the top half of NFL kickers while in college

Thats 43/59 or 73%, which is horribly inconsistent.

What’s 43/59? Are you just making up numbers now?
Here are his stats each year
2019
40-49: 5/10
50+: 4/5
2020:
40-49: 3/4
50+: 6/7
2021
40-49: 3/4
50+: 5/7
So he was inconsistent on long kicks as an 18 year old freshman
If you think those are bad numbers for a college kicker, you have an impossible standard

Those 50+ numbers can really help change a game.
