Man goes missing in Charleston Easter night, found 2 days later on island in harbor

Such a weird story. 31 year old medical student is partying with friends this last Saturday night...he was spotted on Ashley Ave near downtown Charleston (a few blocks from where we live) around 2 a.m. Apparently he left his place not long after that.
They release a missing person report on Easter. Then yesterday they find his body on one of the small islands out in Charleston Harbor that has a Civil War fort on it.
For reference
You cannot drive there, and you sure as hell couldn't swim there with the tides in the harbor. So million dollar question...how did he get there after leaving his place on the west side of the peninsula after 2 a.m.?

Zachary Lewis, an MUSC resident reported missing on Easter, has been found dead.
His body was discovered near Shutes Folly Island around 2:30 p.m. April 1, according to a statement from the Charleston Police Department. Shutes Folly Island is located between the Charleston peninsula and Mount Pleasant. It's the site of the old fortification Castle Pinckney, used during the American Civil War.
The Charleston County Coroner identified the body as Lewis' on April 2.
The 31-year-old's family reported him missing on March 31.
He was originally walking in the downtown area of Charleston before returning to his residence on Ashley Avenue, according to a statement from police. He left that residence shortly before 2 a.m. and was not seen again.

Sounds like he drowned and his body floated there

Maybe he fell in the bay and the tide took him there. He could have crawled up onto the island and died of exposure.

Assuming they found him in the water, not on the island because it says that he was found "near" Shutes Folly, I guess some sort of current took him out there after falling or swimming in the water.

I've been super hammered before and not once did I think hey I'm gonna go jump in the harbor. And this wasn't some vagrant, it's a medical student.
Also, I have a hard time believing a body would wash up on one of those islands...I think it would instead wash right out to sea.

Guessing maybe some homeless person bonked him on the head and took his stuff. Then, dropped him in the water.
Happens all the time.
Happens all the time.

This reminds me of that Houston energy exec that may have partied a little too hard in the French Quarter and ended up in the river.
Folks were flummoxed by that one until the surveillance video cleared it up.
I just think we don't have the video to confirm it in this case.
It's 2024 - is this code for "high", "drunk" or "both"?

Different story says "on".

The body of Zachary Elder Lewis, 31, was found on Shutes Folly Island at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Monday, Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said.
The Charleston Police Department’s Harbor Patrol Unit responded to a report of the discovery Monday afternoon, Sgt. Anthony Gibson said.
O’Neal said the coroner’s office completed a forensic autopsy and the cause of death was currently pending additional tests and further investigation.

Could've been both. He went home after 2 a.m. and then left again for some reason. I think I heard he was engaged too.
Most of my building is MUSC doctors and residents. I bet some of these people know him. I'll do some investigating.

I never thought of climbing into cistern on top of a shady hotel in los angeles while hammered, but that asian chick did it.

A rash of drunk people going into the water seems like the new media obsession. It’s getting up there with plane malfunctions

You ever see that bunch out in the wild?

I've seen Craig and Paige at Sewing Down South, Taylor at a dog costume contest (she's stunning), Naomie at Bar 167, and then a handful of the Southern Hospitality morons around.
My girlfriend also saw Whitney at whole foods a few weeks ago, has seen Austen a number of times, and Katherine once or twice.
I think that's it. It really is a small town here, love it.
ETA: Craig is a hell of a handsome man.

I mean, the Occam's Razor is fairly easy on this one:
1. He fell in the water accidentally (most likely), or
2. Someone attacked him and put him in the water, before or even after he was dead (maybe), or
3. He got in the water on his own volition, either to swim or *ahem* "other".
I'm not creative enough for a 4th option. Aliens, maybe?
