Paxton Kling’s batting stance

This is not a thread to dog on the kid.
Serious question/thought.
Why doesnt he try taking a closed batting stance? Like putting his back foot away from the plate and front foot closer to plate. He just seems to be whiffing on pitches that he is trying so hard to pull.
He is a strong and capable dude. I would think Jay and company are barking at this to try and barrel up in right center ala DCrews.

Let’s ask the travel ball coaches here. Why doesn’t Paxton take more of a stance like Braxton?

he's batting under .190. Fair to say there's a lot wrong with the kid's entire batting existence.

If you actually pay attention to his foot placement from his original open stance once the pitcher starts his motion, youll see that his swing stance is pretty even, which is ideal. Now you could make the argument that his movement is alot and may slightly shift his eyes…but alot of guys do it and are fine. So i dont think thats the issue

Ever tried to change your batting stance during a season?

This is exactly right.
The kid's problem is in his head, not his stance. Sometimes, when guys change their approach or stance to try to fix an issue that is mostly in their head, it gives them a touchpoint that helps them get their head on right but I am not sure it is any more successful than time for most guys. It's really almost like you just have to give up trying then you get 2 or 3 hits in a row and suddenly you're back in form.

The big question is, Does he actually get NIL?

He’s wondering why he has two last names.

I’ve thought the exact same thing. Kling is not in a slump. He’s messing up the basics. He won’t be able to hit until he fixes his fundamentals, stance, and approach. I can’t believe the coaches allow him to go out and fail like that.

TBall instructors abound on this board lol ??

Kling’s issues are mental imo. It’s like he has no clue what he’s swinging at. I don’t think there is a mechanical fix to that.

His issue is pitch recognition. Itll improve with experience

He needs to breathe through your eyelids and wear a garter belt under his uniform.

I think a lot of hitters’ problems stem from the fact that they’re too concerned about hitting the ball and not concerned enough about seeing the ball first. They’re putting the cart before the horse.
Not enough hitters are being taught how to see a ball with their subconscious mind, and allowing themselves to simply react to the ball with natural hand/eye coordination. If you let go and allow your subconscious mind to see the ball better, you will have much better data (ball spin/path/velocity) to react with.
The subconscious mind, combined with good eyesight, can see far more than the conscious mind and eyesight. What’s even more important is that it can analyze far more data at a much greater speed. You can learn how to do this and hit a ball, much more solidly and consistently if you do.

Maybe it’s unbelievable because it’s a non issue. It is not a fundamental thing. This is 100% in his head. He is guessing wrong at pitches and not seeing spin.
Do you think a guy with bad fundamentals would be rated as high as he is in the draft? You’re the guy yelling at 10u coaches for playing a lefty catcher aren’t you?

He could try at least closing his stance off with his stride. He starts open and strides open, which means his front hip opens up early, putting his alignment and hands across the zone. His bat doesn’t stay in the zone very long so he can only handle very few pitch locations. He swings over the top of balls down and in, he pulls anything outside which causes weak contact. SEC pitchers can locate better and exploit those weaknesses.

rose goes in the front, big guy.

I think people should wrap their heads around the fact that he might have been a little overrated. That’s on the scouts, not him. The good news is he’s playing himself into a four year college career, so by the end of it he may be fully adjusted to SEC pitching.

He needs a new hitting coach. He doesn’t stand a chance with his current swing and open stance. I’ve never seen a hitter’s left shoulder fly open like his does. He’s barely covering a 1/3 of the plate. The pitcher could tell him what pitch is coming and he wouldn’t be able to hit.
