The latest deaths underscore a truth that relatives of victims in both tragedies say is too often taken for granted — that immigrants are some of the most vulnerable, least-protected workers in the United States. While full details about the victims in the bridge collapse have not been released to the public, they are known to be natives of Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. Two workers were quickly rescued, but the search for others was ongoing. Authorities announced Wednesday they had recovered two bodies, those of Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, of Baltimore and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, 26, of Dundalk, Md.

Many who are recent immigrants face the economic hardships that come with seasonal and temporary work and the threat of immigration enforcement, all while enduring blazing heat, speeding drivers and the disdain of those who want to see a crackdown on illegal immigration. Maynor Suazo Sandoval, among the six bridge workers presumed to be dead, came to the United States illegally, said his nephew Hector Guardado — though Suazo Sandoval’s employer said he was working in Baltimore legally. Suazo Sandoval, Guardado said, was contributing to the economy in ways many citizens are not willing to.

As construction workers, they were probably making damn good money.

We care about them so little that we're spending probably in the hundreds of thousands trying to find their bodies

What is the purpose of this article? Seriously, think about it.

It’s almost as if our fat citizens are paid not to work

The author clearly is sympathetic to illegal immigration, but no where in the excerpts you posted did the author say the bridge collapse was racist or targeted. If it did, please include that in your post.
ETA: and that’s not to meant to be some smartass comment. If it’s in there it should be included in the post if you’re saying that’s what the article said.

What a communist rag. Everything is racist towards every other race except white western culture. They cry out in pain as they strike you.

Easy fix: stay in your own country.

Solid counterpoint. I renounce my previous post.

Hitting the bridge in Laredo would have been more devastating to the immigrant.

Using a tragedy to push a racist agenda.

That is true. I will give him that.

Every single thing on this planet is racist. Buildings, bridges, cars, animals, roads, trees, water.

But what is the agenda? Does the author not want immigrants to have construction jobs?

Yeah, I’m sure their employer knew that a large cargo ship would crash into the bridge and cause it to collapse.
