I get neither off, but this year we get Juneteenth off.
So there is that.
So there is that.

We get MLK only (no Good Friday)
plus Juneteenth and Indigenous Peoples Day (Columbus Day). Welcome to working for a CA based employer. Got Presidents Day too which surprised me.

Downside to working in a facility that is 24/7/365, but I only work 3.5 days a week. Trying to get that down to 3 days a week.
3 days one week and 4 the next on rotation. If it falls on me working a holiday, its double time and a half

They can't. It's much easier to complain about your employer when you are not your employer.

We had it off last year but, this year, owner decided instead of GF, he would give us 7/4 & 7/5 off and make it a 4 day weekend. Got a few that didn't like it but, overall, it was well received.

Never acknowledged MLK as a holiday when I started up my companies

My company went to giving us two floating holidays to use when we chose. Ironically they don’t pay us out for these two days if we leave the company so pretty much every one uses them as the first two vacation days of the year.
They are still classified as holidays not vacation days; why would they pay you out?
My employer made MLK and President's Days floating holidays; I loved it. Hung on to both until Christmas time to not burn as much vacation. Then they nixed it because there were people who took them earlier in the year and then claimed they didn't so they could try and get off later. Typical of a small percentage of screw ups ruining it for everybody.

Large oil company I worked for switched to an individual choice day long long time ago… you could use it for Easter.. mlk.. blackteenth (?)…. Etc
I also had to take transition awareness training as one of of mid managers was changing sex orientation..
Fwiw .. this was in mid 1990…… I find it interesting how so many people on this board talk like this stuff is new..

The great irony here, is how emphatically the Reverend King would be opposed to observing him instead of observing the Crucifixion.
I never met the guy, but in my opinion, he would be really, really against it.

The company I work for used to give Good Friday off, but then that was dropped, and now we have Juneteenth instead.
Posted on 3/28/24 at 2:08 pm to SpotCheckBilly
How utterly stupid. Good Friday has always been a meaningful holiday. MLK is enough.
Posted on 3/28/24 at 2:19 pm to HoustonGumbeauxGuy
Not me. Of course, I own the company so there is that little technicality.
Besides, have a paid holiday celebrating the Savior of humanity or some dude who had extramarital affairs with four dozen women??

Not I, we got both and even get Juneteenth. I still have no clue what that day is for, but I will gladly take it off.

Many years ago, in Seattle, my employer thought they were being brave and amazing by offering MLK day as a holiday, before the state had adopted it or renamed King county after him.. etc etc.
Did we get an extra day? Nope. They took away a day of Christmas break. I pleaded with HR to make it a flex holiday so those of that preferred to travel home for the holidays could have the time. Nope. In fact, they physically LOCKED the building to prevent people from coming in because they realized no one gave a shite about MLK in our 2,000 person company where we had maybe 5 black folks total, and those were more likely to have photos of Steve Urkel on their wall than MLK.
We had "Juneteenf" added last year, another holiday I couldn't give a half a shiat about, but at least they didn't take away anything to add it. I guess I'll take a random day off in June. We do still get Good Friday, which is nice.

Who else gets neither day off…..
Posted on 3/28/24 at 4:14 pm to HoustonGumbeauxGuy
MLK shouldn’t be a holiday, period.
Posted on 3/28/24 at 4:24 pm to HoustonGumbeauxGuy
I am not sure why two days before Easter is a holiday. December 23rd isn’t a holiday either
