What is missing inside people who intentionally start/spread disinformation just for fun?

I understand the point if you are a government or a business or some other entity that has something to gain by swaying popular opinion...but just some regular ole baw sitting in his basement making up conspiracy theories or random disinformation...how empty are yall inside to feel like this gives you some satisfaction?
EDIT - Many of yall think I'm talking about something that has some truth or is labeled a "conspiracy theory" because it doesn't align with their political beliefs etc...I'm not...I'm talking about just flat out lies and BS.

Who gives a shite? It’s their freedom and ability to think freely, even if wrong.

What I don't get about it is this... these people really think *they* are the ones who are going to change minds?
the fat white trash guy who barely scrapes by livingston parish? or the broke and obese 28 year old they/them in portland? how are they so delusional that they think they should be leading the charge for whatever narrative they are pushing? it's nuts

Not capitalizing the first word in your sentences is nuts, baw.

Dunning-Kruger effect. Stupid people are more opinionated and confident because they never do research on any of their opinions.
I noticed it on full effect as a teacher, kids with low test scores/grades were more likely to be confident, bully, and argue with people.

I find that the people most upset these days about “ conspiracy theories or random disinformation “ tend to be petty low information, social conformist type people.
And the the paranoid style of American politics will always be present. But really, with the fact that our dominant media culture is a clown car derby, who shouldn’t it be? The culture itself is so phony, who or what can you believe in without really educating yourself, and people prefer easy narratives they can wrap their minds around.
Cynicism is the first step to wisdom. Question everything. Especially now.

Who gives a shite if someone wants to type 2+2=5? It's just words and 99% of people can figure stuff out for themselves.
The real question is what's wrong with people who create computer viruses and malware. Those are the people that need to be rounded up and beaten to a pulp and thrown in prison for a long, long time. They directly cause tons of harm.
And yet the government seems more worried about the former.

I'm not even talking about someone who is honestly trying to change minds and opinions about something true/real etc. I'm talking about people who create completely false information for no apparent gain or purpose.

there's this "local influencer" with a pretty big following in new orleans who lives in an inherited POS house and drives around in a POS truck and he has the answers to all of new orleans' (and the the world's) problems. i'll never understand how someone like that gets any sort of following.

clearly those people have financial incentive. While I agree they need to be done with...I understand why they do it.

I assume a lot of them either believe it, don't research opposition views, and/or believe the ends justify the means.

There is also a monetary incentive if you are a talented story teller. I mean you take a thread of truth, extrapolate outcomes, use hedging language to create plausible deniability and protect yourself from libel suits and litter your story with suggestive adjectives and adverbs with a couple of suggestive images and you got the makings of a conspiracy theory. The people that do it well are pretty talented and will attract a following on twitter which they monetize.
Think about it. Mainstream TV promotes regular conspiracy theory programs like Finding Bigfoot and those haunted mansion and ghost story programs. People love a good story, real or not.
