It's when you return that it really set in. Coming onto I-10 from airport and theres trash everywhere, crazy drivers, and general crap. People just don't give a shite

This.
I love Louisiana people and I was born and raised for 36 years there, so it will always be my "home".
But if I wasn't from there, there's no shot in hell I'd ever consider living there.
Louisiana is a great place to be from, not a great place to live, imo.

Yes. It’s pretty eye opening honestly.

Every place sucks and is corrupt, you just havent been there long enough yet to know about it.

When you go other places, do you find yourself thinking "I could live here."
I'm so guilty of this almost every time I go to an out of state getaway location From Hilton Head to Beaufort, Durango to Salt Lake or heck, Cabo. Tons of others as well. I find myself looking at locals and thinking, lucky bastards . I want this.

Nope, most are too ignorant and try find everything wrong with other places to justify why they’re staying in Louisiana.
Not me. I can enjoy those other places without finding anything wrong with them. The only justification for staying in Louisiana is family and friends. That pretty much outweighs everything else as far as I'm concerned.

Yep Louisiana is a great place to be from and not currently all that great to live in.
North GA is great for a lot of reasons like having all seasons, very little crime and career choices outnumber la.
The outdoors is great with hiking and fishing. Sports events and such.
The trade off of only 1 crawfish boil a year instead of like 2 a month or more is an adjustment. The going to less LSU games is a con.
However, it’s great food otherwise all over and easy to attend when LSU makes the sec champ game etc or road trips to most sec games.

MY family and I just recently moved to Houston for my son's medical care. My wife and I both lived our whole lives in BR. We came back to Louisiana after being in Houston last year for 4 months for my son and it opened our eyes to the absolute bullshite that is our healthcare system and hospitals in Louisiana. Granted Texas Children's is the best children's hospital in the world but I wasn't expecting the incompetence that we were faced with in Louisiana. This past time when he was flown to Houston because Louisiana Hospitals just dont have the resources or competent personnel to care for him, we said enough is enough and made the move.
Having been here in TX for a couple of months now I feel like a veil has been lifted as to the many downfalls of Louisiana. Infrastructure, Schools, and Healthcare are three of the biggest ways in which your live is affected day to day (minus schools if no children). Louisiana just cant offer those things in any meaningful or competent way. TX undoubtedly has its problems, but they will not be to the level as Louisiana.
I significantly increased my salary and long term career prospects. I can still get crawfish here, I am the same distance to good fishing in toledo bend, and I can go back to BR to visit all our family or catch a big football game.
I have zero regrets. I think it will ultimately be the best decision My wife and I ever made for our family.

Actually I left Louisiana to learn how badly I missed it.

Every time I fly in I am reminded of why I left. I had to get a rental car one time, and there was a family on the bus that asked is the whole city like this, and some one shouted from the back, no it's actually worse.

he picked up and moved to Hoover, AL. He said it wasn't easy but their quality of life is sooo much better there.
Where did he move from? What aspect of his quality of life has increased? Genuinely curious.
ETA: I'm definitely not a huge Louisiana defender, but if I'm looking for quality of life improvements, I don't think I'm getting a big enough change moving from Lafayette to Hoover.

Yes. I was flabbergasted that fast food places weren't completely staffed by retards when I traveled, government agencies actually respond to you if you have any issues.
Most of the people who "defend" Louisiana or present a million whataboutisms are usually very stupid people who have never left much less lived in other places.

I see this posted sometimes and I seriously don't know a single person that has never left the state.

Where would you move? Every city is declining, hell there’s even a thread about Houston going to shite right next to this one.

Once they graduate HS, just move. Why wait for them to make the move? Just go and enjoy life somewhere else.
I'm still going to want to be a part of their lives. Right now I have a senior and a sophomore. The oldest wants to be a doctor so there's a good shot she won't be in Louisiana, at least for a little bit, if she pursues that field. The youngest wants to be another Mrs. Rachel.

No. I had to move here to see it.

This thread again.
Why does everyone need validation for their decision to leave Louisiana?

just off the top of my head, most OT posters who live in LA have lived in another state or two, at least for a short period of time.
