The record had stood for 26 years

quote:

It was a tight race through three legs between Atascocita and Duncanville, but with LSU star recruit Jelani Watkins on the anchor leg, Atascocita pulled away on the homestretch to seal their history-making win.

2nd place Duncanville also broke the old record with LSU Football commit DaKorien Moore running the 2nd leg and LSU Football commit Caden Durham anchoring.

Race doesn't start until the 2:30 mark

So, LSU has 3 guys coming in who were on teams that beat the old HS 4 X 100 record.

That is some SERIOUS speed.

BTW - Durham is pretty fast by any measure, but Watkins was pulling away. Wow!!!

I really hope all that speed translates onto the gridiron.

I cant wait to see them run a reverse on a kickoff return.

The idea that both durham and moore get smoked (assuming they're leg 3 & 4) but still had a historic race is mind blowing

I happened to be there watching my daughter compete and stuck around for this. It was amazing to see that kind of speed in person. We are getting some serious talent.

That’s insane. Watkins should get at least 5-7 touches per game with that speed.

Winning time was a national record, 38.88 seconds. That is faster than most men's college relay teams.

Caden and Jakorien's team was a blistering 39.64 or so, which is faster than many college men's teams!

The difference in the third leg was massive. Then the anchor just blew away any hope for a mistake.

Atascocita is lane 4 (red singlet and shorts). Duncanville is lane 5 (white singlet and red shorts). Durham is FAST, but Watkins smoked him. Amazing to think that of the 8 guys who broke the existing 26 year old national record in the relay, LSU football has 3 of them (2 signed and 1 committed).

I was invited by a Texas Coach to observe a Spring Scrimmage at Atascocita High. His school and a few more were to attend. One of the other schools was Cy-Ridge, on that team was a QB named Russell Shepard. I also got to meet the Head Coach at Cy-Ridge, Gary Thiebaud.
