Anybody else enjoy fixing lawn/garden equipment they find on the curb?

Picked this up back in February. Put a new carb/air filter, a new self propel belt, and sharpened the blade. About an hour of labor and $35. Sold it for $200.
Picked this up over the weekend. Whoever had worked on it before had boogered the carb up pretty good. The extra carb I have for my mower fit it. Took me 10 minutes to get it fired up. Pump looks like it's OK. Just ordered a hose and gun for it. I'm keeping this one.
I have a weedeater, Benjamin pellet gun, and weedeater that were all picked up and refurbished from the curb. I've flipped around 10 mowers over the past couple of years. Pretty fun to work on them.
Hoping to find a rear tine tiller one of these days.

This is a made up statistic but I feel like a new carb fixes 90% of small engine problems. I don't go out of my way looking for these curb finds, but do enjoy fixing/tinkering with my own shite.

Pretty much. Found a Toro Recycler that was in great shape with a wheel that didn't spin. There was a rock stuck in the self propel gear. Blows my mind how folks will throw stuff away without even trying. All I did to fix it was remove one bolt, pop the rock out, and put the bolt back.

i have an old briggs generator in my barn that i want gone, it hasnt been started in 10 years at least but it did run. i suspect it will need a new fuel tank and carb. any takers?

Growing up I had a friend that ran a paper route. I remember being amazed at what he’d scoop up on the morning following trash night beating the trash trucks.
I repair stuff around the clock but normally don’t find curbside lol.

I'm actually going pick up a free push mower from my brother today, it'll need a new carb and blade sharpened but will do just fine for a new camp mower. A neighbor threw out an old leaf blower a couple weeks back and now I regret not grabbing it when I had the chance to make a camp blower out of it.
Not lawn equipment but a neighbor tossed out a Blackstone grill because they didn't clean it so the griddle had some rust. I cleaned it, seasoned it, decided I didn't really need it, and sold it for $150.
Also had a neighbor throw out a John Deere Power Wheels when the battery went bad, put a $17 adapter to accept my drill batteries on it and now it rips.
I'm not above a roadside scoop and score.

Not really a curb find, but I still have a Stihl gas blower that fell out of a lawn trailer in front of me.
I stopped and grabbed it, then tried to catch up with him.
The guy was speeding so much, I never did.
I just brought it home and still use it 4 years later.

I lot of coworkers make fun of me for it. shite, idk why anybody would be above making a quick buck. I save stuff up and work on it when I have nothing else to do on a weekend. Way more productive than watching tv or something.

My brother in law does this from time to time. Found an EGO weed eater by the side of the road. Just needed a battery. He's also found a couple push mowers that just needed the carb replaced.

hell most of the time you just need to clean the carb
last year my neighbor put his mower on the curb, so I grabbed it, checked it out, cleaned the carb, and it was running perfect again
I brought it back to him and he goes "Oh...hey man, I really just wanted a new electric mower, so I already told my wife that one is broke, so could you just like keep it?"
I now have a nice back up mower

I am a boomer and did this for a long time. And yes, it was fun fixing things up. But....
One day I was having trouble with a gas chainsaw just back from the shop. I had to climb a ladder with the chain spinning to cut a branch. That's when I snapped... :)
I got home and unloaded every project from my garage. Chainsaws, and edger, pneumatic tools, etc. Listed on Craigslist for free! Then took a shower.
By the time I was drying off, the traffic in front of my house was intense. Passing along the projects to the next guy.
I still fix things to give to others, but have equipment that doesn't give me grief.

Anything that I'm going to use a lot I usually buy new and don't mind spending extra for quality. I'm with you there.

I do enjoy this and have tinkered with carbs on my edgers in the past. Currently trying to figure out why I have to jump start my riding mower. All the safety switches seem fine. I think it’s a short somewhere.

Funny this thread popped up this week. Cleaning out an old barn and have and old bushhog and finishing mower that I just pulled out. Anyone have any interest in these? Both 4' (I think) and looks to be, from my naked eye, salvageable. Me and time are enemies now so if someone is interested let me know, I can send some pics of them.
