People talking about AI “taking over” always make me laugh.

I think that people who say AI will take over every job don’t understand how artificial intelligence actually works. For sure there is a place for it, but if your job can be taken over by AI then it’s likely because you are doing useless paperwork. AI is just a stats program, and input into it must be done by somebody. Jobs creating/editing AI software will become more common, and that will replace the “jobs” that AI is taking over.

Sounds like something an AI bot with 79 posts would say
Nice try, pal

Sure, that's all well and good until Skynet starts launching nukes.

It's clear the definition of AI has radically changed. Another boom and bust cycle of vaporware companies trying to get in on the free money

Would you mind telling us what you do for work?

I don’t think AI is about to take over every job in the next year or anything, but you seem to have a significant misunderstanding of what AI can currently do and has been doing.

That sounds exactly like something an AI bot would say to throw us off and give us a false sense of security.

The AI you are describing is 10 years old. Today’s Generative AI can do much more than handle “useless paperwork.”

Your ChatGPT response:
You make a valid point. AI indeed relies on human input and oversight. While it can automate certain tasks, many jobs require human judgment, creativity, and empathy, which AI cannot fully replicate. Additionally, the development and maintenance of AI systems create new job opportunities in fields like data science, machine learning, and AI ethics. It's more about augmentation than complete replacement.

My question is what will happen to AI when I unplug it? AI wouldn't be so tough then now would it?

The vast majority of employed people are just products of their training.
Unless you are in a very creative field likely you are just duplicating a set of protocols.

All they ever had to do was unplug Skynet but they never thought of that

That's what they did in the 3rd movie and that's why Skynet launched the nukes.

I, for one, would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new robot overlords.

Will AI be able to lower crawfish prices?

So most accounting, financial sector, law, lots of engineering jobs, it jobs…good thing not many people work in those areas.

I work in sales. 90% of the entry level sales work is mass emailing potential customers. We are less than five years than that being done by AI entirely.
A lot of customer support is close to being automated as well. AI chat assistants can reference a company's documents and provide an answer faster than a human in the Philippines.
Once AI gets a little more conversational, again maybe five years away, a lot of over the phone support becomes AI as well.
Not to mention all the copywriting, editing, graphic design in the creative fields.
There's a lot of low end white collar that's about to get obliterated.
