I’m decently informed on how the programs truly work.

AI will end up supplementing a lot of work making it better/faster, but it's also going to take a lot of jobs but hopefully make lower end workers far more productive. I'm not convinced AI is going to be the apocalypse.

Lots of people are even going to reject it, just look at the Los Angeles port workers union. They reject any and all technology that would make the port run more efficient.

Hilarious, Chat. The oligarchy will give zero shits about any of this when they realize how much money they can save with AI.

I don’t think you know how AI works. It’s not 1980, gramps. It’s not going to be like in the movies that it will “take over,” but it’s so much more than what you said. Too many people just treat it like Turbo Tax or something.

I just asked Chat GPT to write a joke in the style of Larry David about boomers who don’t understand how technology works:

“You ever listen to a boomer talk about technology? It’s like they’re playing a digital game of Bingo, and they keep shouting “Bingo!” but they don’t even have a card.”

That’s pretty much your post.

I’m a 30 year old software engineer. I’m many things, but being uniformed about what AI actually entails is not one of them. I’ve worked on several AI projects and consulted for OpenAI who is responsible for your precious chatGPT. Trust me, when you see how these models are made you understand that the capabilities are limited. Will AI reduce needs for lower end white collar jobs? 100%. But a lot of people don’t understand how the programs actually work. Artificial intelligence is glorified statistics. With that being said, the government is already regulating these systems and will continue to do so for obvious reasons.

AI will maybe eliminate some jobs, but the bigger issue is it will allow us to greatly reduce the number of people needed in a specific field.

Eta
For example, many companies will grow revenue without growing headcount. At some point, that may be perpetual, at least in some cases.

No doubt. Workers that are properly trained on these systems will increase efficiency 10 fold, eliminating a need for entry positions that are responsible for grunt work.

I had an X-ray read the other day, it said interpreted using AI software.. and the radiologist just said agree with AI report. So in the future won’t need radiologists

That will be a problem at some point. Society will have to shift to accommodate such a radical new norm. And then there is the problem of too much supply due to ever improving efficiency.

The next 20 years are going to be wild. I think society looks more different than what you'd expect on that timeline.

Wrong. However, there won’t be as many. No AI company wants to take on the liability and lawsuits that would occur from relying solely on the technology. These systems are prone to mistakes. This is why the doctor must check the report. However, using these systems increases the efficiency of a radiologist leading to a lower demand for radiologists. They won’t go away entirely though.

First LLMs are not AI. They are basically really advanced data miners.

AI is something we no longer have to feed or maintain. It surpasses us and is truly aware and self serving
