I saw a product made by Spartan. It’s a tube you add water to and then hang the tube. I think it said 4 tubes per acre. Anyone ever tried it ?

We're using some this year. Just hung them up last week. Not sure how well they're working, but from what I can tell it's just a boric acid mixture that baits them into laying eggs that will never hatch. I can let you know in a few weeks when it really warms up how they worked

Don’t waste your money like I did. There have been other threads on this and the consensus is that they suck.

I've had 2 up for a few weeks now and haven't seen a difference. Waste of money

Place a five gallon bucket in an area that has a lot of mosquito activity or around the perimeter of your yard, preferably in the shade. Fill the bucket 3/4 full of water. Drop a mosquito dunk in each bucket. It’s cheap and controls the mosquito population.

They are the latest in Facebook fads. You are a lot better off buying some thermacells.

Have tried. They suck. Spend your money on screening your porch.

They don’t work.

It relies on co2 production from yeast. A flea fart produces more co2, so don't waste your money.

They didn't do a damn thing for me

quote:I know someone else who does this. What’s the logic behind this? It doesn’t kill the live/biting mosquitos. It kills eggs and larvae. Do mosquitos only lay a certain amount of eggs so you encourage them to do it in a controlled spot to kill future mosquitos? I imagine they are also laying eggs elsewhere and you’re not really stopping anything.

I do use them in a bird bath that I find larvae in during the summer. It works in the bird bath but I still have mosquitoes in my yard. I’ve tried the Spartans for two seasons and they don’t work.

If you need it for a specific event I would go ahead and try to line up a free mosquito abatement from the city. BR does it but you're at least a month out from getting an appointment. I would say if you have a fogger then get that before you plan on going out into your yard. It's hard to keep these things away 24/7. The Spartan tubes don't do much.
There are other mosquito barriers you can spray on your lawn but I can't imagine that they're healthy for your property.
