When all the folks who love this idea suddenly find they are enjoying working 20% fewer hours but are suddenly seeing 20% less pay they're gonna wonder what happened. The explanation will be, "You're still making X-amount of dollars per hour, so there is no reduction in pay. Only reduction in hours billable."

Bernie's a shrewd, old socialist feeding on the ignorance of idiots and freeloaders.

The one unintended consequence of ideas like this is that it puts emphasis on automation. People have and will continue to be replaced by automation. Self check out, vending machine fast food, driverless cars, robots working warehouse, drone delivery… all a result of business trying to cut cost from the higher demands from human workers.

Sorry Bernie- socialism has consequences

It's not the work week that sucks, it's the pay that sucks for most jobs. Well, the economy is what sucks.

Some people are working 2 jobs for 80 hours a week and still struggling to hold on. Putting the work week to 32 hours for 40 hours pay.. would mean that some of those people would keep their two full time jobs, working 64 hours instead of 80 hours...and then get a part time third job.

As long as the economy sucks arse, people are going to struggle.

Nay. The government shouldn’t be deciding who is tired and needs less 8 hours of work per week.

Sounds like one hell of a tax (or, a backdoor increase in the minimum wage).

Great thought but not happening. Our masters aren't setting us free for nothing.
The majority of the civilized world thinks we are nuts for working so much and wasting our lives.

How could the government dictate what hours a private company sets for its employees, or that they should be paid the same wages for 32 hours as for 40?

What most people don’t acknowledge is that a large portion of the labor market is global now…Americans need to compete with English fluent Eastern Europe, South America, India, etc or private enterprises will move more and more of their workforce to cheaper regions (cost/hr).

Many workers in developing nations are willing to work more hours and for lesser pay. This would only accelerate the trend we are already seeing. This is simply a fact.

Helll no. Why should the government limit the opportunity for people thst want to work more hours?

No one hates the ambitious, and works harder to stop them than the lazy. Look at the bill sponsor.

So let me see if I've got this right. Bernie (someone who has never WORKED a day in his life) Wants my company to pay me the same amount of money that I make for working 40 hours but I only work 32?

To some lame brains that sounds amazing, but in reality it will never fly. I'd have to vote Nay

Dear lord, labor costs would be insane, and the consumer inflationary pressure would just skyrocket. But hey, if it makes Lefties wet, it must be a good idea. It is certainly more plausible than all these other catastrophic policies they have championed.
