Just saw the trailer. Wow! Does anyone know if this is a movie or a series?

It’s a series. It looks promising.

Its book one of a three book series.

If done right, will be a huge fav on this board. Unfortunately if done right the average person will be too stupid to understand most of the first act.

In my experience, you either love or hate the books so it’s somewhat expected for the reviews to mirror that. I’m looking forward to starting it this weekend

Starting tonight, man I hope it's good. Just for Mrs. Iwy's sake. This and Foundation are her two favorite books/series of all time.
She was disappointed with Apple+ for screwing up Foundation, she gave up a few episodes in. Hopefully Dumb and Dumber do this justice.

question for those in the know....is the weed smoking black physicist guy actually in the books?
the first episode has a scene where the following are sitting at a table hanging out:
female asian physicist
female hispanic physicist
indian military lieutenant/captain boyfriend
black weed smoking physicist
2 white male physicists
they got all the races covered and they're all close friends...just like you see in our 'real world' i'm sure.
someone please tell me dumb and dumber have not ruined this amazing story with f*cking DEI. why do this

This… isn’t weird.

I read the first book. They were all mostly all Chinese in the book, so yes, they have diversified the cast by adding some white people (among others).

If you want the book accurate Chinese cast with complicated Chinese names, you can watch the 30-episode Chinese version on Amazon.

They're all Chinese in the book. So even the white people shouldn't be there if you're wanting accurate. So knowing that, of the diversity hires, does the black guy, Indian guy, or the two white people bother you the most?

I will never trust Dumb and Dumber and haven't seen it yet so I can't speak to the quality yet, but if you haven't read the books, how do you know it's an amazing story? It's kind of hard to know it's an amazing story that is ruined by having a black and Indian guy in it if you haven't read it right? I'm just going to assume having the two white people didn't bother you. For all you know, you could hate the books, they definitely aren't for everybody. They weren't for me. The show might not be for you as well.

This is what’s happening with shogun, which is currently the best show on television…no DEI nonsense.
For the record, I’m currently still enjoying 3 body problem so far, but I had to call out the casting and will always call out stuff that bothers me

Its only the first episode, and they've already royally fricked up the story from the books, including turning the cast into the United Colors of Benetton.

I seen the thirty episode of the Amazon version. Not bad, I read the book afterward. Its gets real Sci-Fi ish and I can't wait to see how that is done.
I am okay for the changes made for the western audiences. In this cause the DEI. Keep in mind this book was written under a communist regime. For those that don't know every single piece of media has to pass through the government before it is published or made.
The original book had every foreigner as "evil" all non chinese are dumb or not as smart as their asian counter part. And that women should know their place in the long run and if you dont you frick everyone over.
So yeah, much better adapted for a western audience.

I hope it’s better than the teaser trailer thing that auto plays on Netflix, where they were in the tower and talking about how they built a human computer, that was awful.

That's in the book. And it makes sense in the context of the game they're playing.
