My bat-shite crazy ex-wife (pics previously posted) was always late; not just a few minutes, but an hour or more. She caused me to miss one of my granddaughters' birthday dinners at an upscale restaurant, and were always late meeting friends (she'd get pissed when I would call people to let them know we were running behind). It was a power thing with her - she wanted everyone to know how much more valuable her time was than theirs.

Have a pain the arse aunt who would always show up 30 minutes after the planned dinner time, so I showed up 45 minutes late last Thanksgiving.
Such satisfaction!

It's inconsiderate as all hell, especially if you established a time to meet or leave beforehand. It's pretty much like announcing that your time is more important than mine.

Tell a chronically late person an earlier start time than the actual start time and watch what happens. When they see they’re on time or maybe earlier than some other folks, they tend to get angry.

I hate being late for anything.

It's the nurses and female patients running late that make the doctors late. We all wait on women in the end. Imagine if doctors didn't have to rely on them to keep a strict schedule.

Those that make you wait are selfish and arrogant. They think that they are important enough to make you wait for them. Some even do it to make a Grand Entrance...selfish individuals!

Have you never needed to take a piss on the road while nobody else did?

Worst is the guy who finished pumping his gas, gets in his car, and sits there for 10 minutes.

Where?

Yet, I quickly realized this wasn't the norm. Despite Uber giving riders the exact location and time for arrival, PLENTY of riders have me sit outside of their location like a dog, often with my hazards on in a high-stress, crowded roadway, and wait 5 minutes for them to saunter out.
Maybe tell Uber to stop with their 5 minute wait.
I ordered a Lyft the other day. Guy showed up 6 minutes earlier than the initial time of 10 minutes, then complained to me about not being ready.

I feel the same way about these people as the people who throw trash out the window; we must be from different planets because I can't even begin to understand it.

We have a meeting at 0600 at work(offshore). Bosses get there at 550 and everyone files in right after. I've figured out what they're doing. If the meeting goes past 0615 they have to pay the night guys OT. So they go in early, and everyone shows up at 0555. The 15 minute meeting is over by 0610, so they don't have to pay the OT. Now I have no dog in this fight, but I'm getting there at 0559, I don't care if everyone is waiting on me to start. Them boys getting paid.

Occasionally, I will get a ping to somewhere right next to me and it takes 30 seconds to get there. I'm not talking about those times. I'm talking about when I'm driving five minutes to pick someone up and they're still not ready when I arrive and aren't out within a minute.
In your situation, you probably still saw where your driver was and should have known he was going to be there early. 4 minutes is still enough time to get your stuff together and get outside.
With Ubers and Lyfts, time is money and the more time we spend waiting, the less money we're making.

They are the absolute worst about this. I stopped seeing a Dr. a few years ago because of it. Had the first appointment of the day (9a.m.) since I had other things I needed to do later that morning.
I'm in the waiting room and he walks out the elevator in street clothes at 9:45, then takes another 15 minutes to have me called back to the exam room. Waited in there another 15 minutes before he actually saw me.
Told him I was done and that was my last visit with him, and the only reason I was there was for a checkup due to needing to keep up a couple prescriptions for cholesterol and high blood pressure.

It's very simple.
I prefer people wait on me rather than me wait on them.
