There are movies that I might say are objectively my favorite, but the ultimate judge is what movies will I stop and watch if they are on? This isn't an Oscars' list. It's movies I can watch over and over.
The Greatest Showman
Twister
10 Things I Hate About You
The Wedding Singer
Demolition Man
Beerfest
Idiocracy
Grumpy Old Men
The Hangover
Christmas Vacation
Elf
MIB
Jurassic Park
Armageddon
Starship Troopers
Transformers
Resident Evil
The Martian
Edge of Tomorrow
And the winner is... in sheer terms of hours spent watching...
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation!

The Man Who Would Be King.
Anything that starts with a Rudyard Kipling work is going to be an adventure. It will entertain and make you think. Captains Courageous (1937) is great too, as are most of the adaptations of The Jungle Book and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Kim (1950) may be Dean Stockwell's best childhood performance, and it's one of my favorite Errol Flynn roles too.

I said The Right Stuff, but thinking through it North by Northwest may win

Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers
I know this is against the rules, but that’s actually 1a…..1b is The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.

He was. It's a funny movie that has held up with time. All of kids love it as well.

Brazil. Terry Gilliam's masterpiece. Not without flaws but the moments of near perfection overcome that. Gilliam was right that the danger isn't evil monsters, it's the banal lives we chose to live. And the stupid bureaucracy that we put up with. Very funny movie at times and very dark at others. Perfect mix really.

It will always be Jaws.
I was fascinated and frightened of sharks as a kid. Nightmares galore and still watched it every time I had a chance.
But when I watched a behind the scenes of the movie and found out the whole premise of the movie broke before filming started, a new screenplay was winged to get the ball rolling, you don’t even see the shark for 2/3’s of the movie (cause it was broke) and it still captures my attention (especially when shown on the big screen) every time!

Three of my favorites that have not been mentioned so far.
Network, One of the best screenplay ever written.
Chinatown. "Saltwater, bad for glass."
L.A. Confidential. Crowe, Spacey, Pierce and Cromwell all nailed their roles. "Rollo Tomassi."

The Outlaw Josey Whales. If I run across it while channel surfing I am there until it is over. Also love Bridge over the River Kwai.

The Untouchables — just the right mixture of story lines and action.

Lots of great movies listed...
For me Sling Blade gets beat out just barely by...
Platoon. Soundtrack puts it over the top.
